Herzing University – Atlanta Launches New Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Program
ATLANTA (November 17, 2011) – Herzing University – Atlanta announced today that it has launched a new Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program to help meet the growing need for nursing professionals. There are more than 2.5 million registered nurses in the country today, both men and women, and the field is expected to grow 22 percent nationally by 2018 and a whopping 36 percent in Georgia.
“At a time when demand for nurses continues to grow, we are very excited to offer a degree that helps students take their careers to the next level,” said Frank Webster, Campus President, Herzing University – Atlanta. “A BSN degree provides nurses with more career opportunities in every type of healthcare facility, as well as the option to continue their study at the graduate level and move into advanced practice and management positions.”
The BSN program is designed for high school graduates and adult learners. They study full-time for 32 months in a unique format that concentrates classes in morning, afternoon, or evening blocks to provide a more life-friendly schedule. Through the program, students develop a foundation of knowledge and experience in pediatrics, obstetrics, adult health, mental health, geriatrics, and public health. They also take general education and personal development courses in addition to the required nursing and nursing-support courses that integrate theoretical instruction with clinical experience in a variety of healthcare settings.
Students who have completed some college courses may shorten their required coursework for the BSN by transferring in qualifying credits. Depending on the number of hours of transfer credits, students with previous experience could complete the program in as little as two years, Webster said.
The Herzing University – Atlanta BSN degree program is approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing and prepares students to take the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) upon completion of the program. Graduates who successfully pass this national examination will be qualified to practice as registered nurses in Georgia and will also be qualified to apply for licensure in all 50 states. Interested students should attend an upcoming nursing information session to learn about the program and how to apply.
The Herzing University Online campus also offers convenient options for nursing education. The online BSN Bridge degree is an RN to BSN “bridge program” for registered nurses who want to advance their careers by earning their bachelor’s degree. Two Master of Science in Nursing programs also are available, with Nursing Education or Nursing Management concentrations to fit individual career goals in executive-level nursing or teaching positions.
