Omaha School of Massage and Healthcare Offers New Medical Assisting Programs and is Granted Accreditation through 2014

OMAHA, NE (December 27, 2011) – Expanding its array of educational opportunities in the healthcare field, Omaha School of Massage and Healthcare of Herzing University (OSMHC) is now offering an Associate of Science in Medical Assisting Services degree program as well as a Diploma in Medical Assisting Services program.

“We’re very excited to be expanding the array of healthcare programs we can offer to students in the Omaha area to give them more and better career options in a high-growth industry,” said Steve Carper, campus president, Omaha School of Massage and Healthcare of Herzing University. “Medical Assisting is a great career for those who are interested in a balance of patient care and administrative duties, and we offer them either a diploma or associate degree program so students can choose the level of education and skills that is right for them.”

Both programs have been granted accreditation by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) through December 31, 2014. Accreditation by ABHES signifies that the institution or program has met the eligibility criteria and evaluation standards of ABHES as evidenced during its most recent on-site review and continues to comply with the policies and procedures for maintenance of accreditation as established by ABHES.

The Medical Assisting Services diploma program at OSMHC will train students to perform both hands-on patient care activities such as taking blood pressure and drawing blood, and administrative tasks like taking a patient’s medical history and handling insurance forms. The Associate of Science in Medical Assisting Services program is designed for those seeking more opportunities for career growth, offering a well-rounded general education to the core medical assisting courses that are offered in the diploma program.

A career as a medical assistant is best for individuals who are good at following detailed instructions and rules, can juggle several tasks at one time, are good at working with their hands and work well as part of a team. A successful medical assistant must also have good communication and listening skills, and have a pleasant and friendly personality with the ability to be compassionate and supportive to patients. Of course, medical assistants must also have a strong interest in patient care and be able to handle the sight of blood or wounds.

The diploma in Medical Assisting Services program requires an average of one year for completion and the Associate of Science in Medical Assisting Services takes approximately 16 months to graduate.

Applications are being accepted for January 2012. To learn more or register for classes, students are encouraged to contact the admissions department of OSMHC at 402-331-3694 or visit www.osmhc.com.
