Fire Science
Helping to prevent, battle or investigate fires can be very rewarding career fields.
Today, fire science professionals do much more
than put out fires.
- Fire fighters are often the first at the scene of a traffic accident or medical emergency and must be able to treat injuries or perform other vital life-saving functions.
- Fire inspectors check the safety of existing buildings and approve plans for new ones.
- Fire investigators work with fire departments and insurance companies to determine the cause of fires.
An associate degree in fire science is essential if you want to pursue a career in this dangerous but rewarding career field.
Fire fighters are expected to face keen competition for available job openings. Applicants with the best chances are those who are physically fit and score the highest on physical-conditioning and mechanical aptitude exams as well as have an associate degree in fire safety. An EMT or paramedic certification will have an additional advantage.
