Note: These prerequisites for the Herzing University – Madison Nursing Program (DPN and ADN) apply:
(All prerequisites must be completed prior to Application Deadline)
- Completion of High School or equivalency (Diploma, HSED or GED)
- Current CNA, CMA, RNA, EMT, Paramedic certificate or any other license/certificate approved by Director of Nursing
- Current Healthcare provided CPR certification
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (students with 12 or more transferable Collegiate credits will be assessed on their Collegiate Cumulative GPA. Candidates with GED or HSED will be assessed a 2.5 Cumulative GPA)
- Completion of one semester of high school-or collegiate-level math, biology, and chemistry with a grade of “C” or better
- Completion of TEAS V from an ATI-recognized proctor environment with an Individual Adjusted score of 58% or higher
- Acknowledgement regarding the necessity of a physical examination (including TB, Hepatitis B, and all other applicable immunization records)
- Complete nursing committee interview to obtain recommendation by Director of Nursing (or a representative appointed by the Director of Nursing)
- Background checks will be completed prior to enrollment into DPN and ADN program

A nurse with a bachelor’s or master’s degree is often offered more challenging and better-compensated positions. Administrative or management positions often require a higher level of education.
A bachelor’s degree is a prerequisite for admission to graduate nursing programs. A BSN is a necessary stepping stone for:

Diploma in Practical Nursing
This program is approved by the Wisconsin State Board of Nursing to prepare students to take the National Council Licensing Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) and to begin a nursing career. Students are given a basic foundation of general education including courses in communications and the sciences and are prepared with the basic knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to function as a practical nurse.
Theoretical instruction is complimented with clinical experience in a variety of healthcare settings in order to provide a broad, holistic, and reality-based understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a practical nurse. Students will participate in planned clinical and laboratory experiences that will complement classroom learning and will stress health promotion as well as disease processes.
Associate of Science in Nursing
This degree program is approved by the Wisconsin State Board of Nursing to prepare students to take the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and to begin a professional nursing career. Graduates will be prepared to integrate nursing knowledge, critical thinking, and advanced nursing skills in the healthcare environment when managing care for multiple clients with complex conditions.
