Financial Aid Steps
While our Financial Aid Advisors will guide you through the Financial Aid application, feel free to begin the process by completing the steps below.
FAFSA
Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov

Register for a PIN - Go to: www.pin.ed.gov
This PIN will act as your electronic signature for your online financial aid documents. Please request that the PIN be emailed to you. - Complete a 2011-2012 FAFSA using your 2010 federal tax information. – You can fill this form out online and submit it with your PIN. Please remember to add Herzing University’s school code to your FAFSA form (School Code: 014030).
- Please be sure to print your confirmation page.
Entrance Counseling
Go to: https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action

Be sure to read all of the information carefully, as this is information you will be quizzed on.
- Step One involves reading through some very important information regarding Stafford Loans and answering relevant questions. As you progress through the session, you will be required to enter your personal information as well as provide contact information about personal references. This session will be very helpful in providing you with information about your loans and is required in order to complete the financial aid process.
- Quiz: You must answer 12 out of 15 questions correctly to pass. This may mean you will need to retake the quiz until 12 out of the 15 questions can be answered correctly. Once you pass the quiz, click Proceed.
- If you already have your PIN from the Federal PIN Website (the same PIN used to sign your FAFSA), please click on the “Log On with PIN” link. Enter your information and proceed through the steps. If you do not already have your PIN, please see the instructions under the FAFSA section above. The PIN website is: www.pin.ed.gov
- Read over the information in Step Two and click “Save and Acknowledge.”

To Select Herzing University as your school, click on the “Add a School” button in Step Three.
If you type in Herzing, a number of locations will pull up. The Orlando Campus OPE ID is 02089700 and the associated city is Atlanta, GA. Please be sure to select the proper school, or it will not appear in our records that the Entrance Counseling has been completed.Once the proper school is selected, click “Choose Selected School”. You may then click “Proceed”. -
After you have completed the session, a confirmation page will appear in Step Four.
You must print this confirmation page for your records. Click on the “Show Form for Printing” button for a printable copy of your confirmation that the Entrance Counseling has been completed. You should save this file on your computer if you don’t have a printer. Just click on File, Save As and click “Save” after selecting the appropriate location on your computer.
Master Promissory Note
After you have completed the Stafford Entrance Counseling session, you will need to complete the Master Promissory Note. The Master Promissory Note (MPN) is your agreement to pay back any student loans taken out on your behalf, should you decide to accept them as part of your Financial Aid Award Package.
Please go to: https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action and complete a Master Promissory Note. In order to confirm to sign the MPN, you must have a verified PIN. This is the same PIN that was used to complete your FAFSA and Entrance Counseling. Please have this information available before you begin.

Step One
- Go to ‘Sign In’ in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
- Enter the appropriate information and click ‘Submit’.

Step Two
- Confirm your information listed under ‘Personal Information’. Once you have confirmed your information, click on ‘Complete Master Promissory Note’.

Step Three
- Select the loan type of ‘Subsidized/Unsubsidized’.

Step Four
- Fill in or update the personal information requested.

Under School and Loan Information Select:
School State: GA
School Name: Herzing College. (It will be listed under the address of “3393 PEACHTREE ROAD SUITE 1003, ATLANTA GA 303261132 – G208797”) - Click Continue

Step Five
- Enter your References.

Step Six
- Carefully review the Term and Conditions listed.
- Check the box under ‘Section F’ that acknowledges that you have reviewed the information and click continue.

Step Seven
- Review all of the information and make any necessary changes.
- Enter your Name as indicated
- Click 'Sign'.

Step Eight
- A message will appear at the bottom stating “Your Signature has been authenticated. Please review your Master Promissory Note before submitting’.
- Click on the blue ‘HTML Verison’ hyperlink to view your electronically signed MPN. Please print a copy for your records.
- Click Continue.

Step Nine
- You may also view your MPN in PDF Format under this step
- You may use the navigation bars on the left hand side of the screen to review additional information or complete additional steps.
- To logout, the button can be located at the top right hand of your screen.
Additional Documentation
You may be asked to submit supplemental documentation once your file has been submitted to our Financial Services Department. Your FAFSA may be “Selected for Verification” by the Federal Government, which is a normal part of the financial aid process. If you are selected, you will be asked by Financial Aid to supply additional documents to your Financial Aid Officer, including a Verification Worksheet which will be emailed to you at that time. In order to complete the process in a timely manner, we highly recommend having the following documents ready for submission:
- Federal Tax Forms (1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ) – A signed copy of your 2009 federal tax filings (and your spouse’s if applicable). If you are unable to locate a copy of these documents, you can request free Tax Transcripts from the IRS. Please call the IRS Tax Transcript Request Line at 1-800-829-1040.
- W2’s – Your 2009 W2’s (and your spouse’s if applicable).
- Social Security Benefit documentation – From 2009 for you and/or your spouse.

Welcome to Herzing University! As the Director of Financial Aid, I understand the financial aid process can be difficult and intimidating. Our mission is to make this process as simple and seamless as possible. The financial aid staff is available to assist in applying for various types of financial aid, as well as help our students understand funding and counsel them, giving them all information necessary to make informed decisions.
