Herzing University - Brookfield Offers New Medical Assisting Program
BROOKFIELD, WI (April 22, 2013) – Expanding its array of educational opportunities in the healthcare field, Herzing University – Brookfield is now offering an Associate of Science in Medical Assisting Services degree program, in addition to its Diploma in Medical Assisting Services program.
“We’re very excited to be expanding the array of healthcare programs we can offer to students in the Brookfield area to give students more career options in a high-growth industry,” said Jackie Curtis, campus president, Herzing University – Brookfield. “Medical Assisting is a great career for those who are interested in a balance of patient care and administrative duties, and we offer both diploma and associate degree programs so students can choose the level of education that is right for them.”
The Medical Assisting Services diploma program at Herzing University – Brookfield prepares students to perform both hands-on patient care activities such as taking blood pressure and drawing blood, and administrative tasks like taking a patient’s medical history and handling insurance forms. The Associate of Science in Medical Assisting Services program is designed for those seeking more opportunities for career growth by including a well-rounded general education program in addition to the core medical assisting courses that are offered in the diploma program.
A career as a medical assistant is great for individuals who are good at following detailed instructions and rules, can juggle several tasks at one time, work well with their hands and can positively contribute to a team atmosphere. A successful medical assistant must also have highly developed communication and listening skills, and have a pleasant and friendly personality with the ability to be compassionate and supportive to patients. Medical assistants must also have a strong interest in patient care and the human body, and be able to handle the sight of blood and wounds.
The Diploma in Medical Assisting Services program requires an average of one year for completion and the Associate of Science in Medical Assisting Services takes approximately 20 months to complete. Students wishing to continue their education even further are encouraged to consider earning a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management degree.
Applications are now being accepted for classes starting in July and September 2013. To learn more or register for classes, students are encouraged to contact the admissions department of Herzing University at 1-800-596-0724 or visit www.herzing.edu/brookfield.
