MILWAUKEE, WI (February 24, 2014) – Have you ever driven past a field of windmills and wondered who maintains them and keeps them running? It could be you, with an associate degree or diploma in Wind Energy Technology, now available from Herzing University – Online.

“Wind energy is one of the most promising green energy sources and it is growing rapidly across the country,” said Nigel Longworth, campus president of Herzing University – Online. “Our new Wind Energy Technology program is well suited to people who enjoy solving logical systems challenges, and it will enable them to join a growing industry with a lot of career potential across many technical systems jobs.”

The United States has enough wind power capacity to power 15 million homes, and wind energy was the number one source of new energy generating capacity for the country for the year, according to a 2012 report from the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA). There are more than 45,000 operating utility-scale wind turbines operating in the U.S. across 39 states and Puerto Rico, providing jobs for more than 80,000 people and growing.

The Herzing University Wind Energy Technology program covers industrial safety, applied and wind energy physics, energy production from wind and wind energy maintenance. It also covers DC and AC electricity, motors and generators, fluid power, programmable logic controllers and basic mechanics. In addition, students will earn certification in OSHA 10, basic safety and CPR, and a Suzlon Climbing Certificate.

Charles Clayton, Training Manager at Suzlon Wind Energy’s North American training facility agreed that interest in wind energy is on the rise. “Wind energy is just cresting on its potential,” he said. Herzing University is partnering with Suzlon, the 5th largest turbine manufacturer in world, to provide students with a hands-on training component. At the end of the Herzing University wind energy technology program, students will spend two weeks at Suzlon’s 12,000-square-foot training facility—the only facility in the Americas to offer a fully operational, working-height wind turbine dedicated exclusively for training.

The Herzing University diploma program in Wind Energy Technology can be completed in a year and the associate of science degree can be completed in 20 months. To learn more or register for classes, students are encouraged to contact admissions at 1-800-596-0724, or visit www.herzing.edu

Herzing University – Akron Medical Laboratory Technician Program

Receives National Accreditation

AKRON, OH (December 1, 2013) – The Medical Laboratory Technician program at Herzing University – Akron has been awarded accreditation from the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), the university announced today.

Accreditation signifies that the Herzing program meets nationally accepted standards in the medical laboratory technician field, and ensures that graduates have the qualifications required to take the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) certification examination and begin working in a career in laboratory medicine.

“We are very excited that our medical laboratory technician program, which was launched in 2010, has now achieved accreditation,” said David L. LaRue, Campus President, Herzing University – Akron. “Our students and graduates know they are obtaining a high quality education from Herzing, but it’s helpful when their employers can see that the program they completed is accredited by a well-respected organization like the NAACLS.”

The medical laboratory technician program trains students to work with computer-based technology and laboratory instruments to aid in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease. This work is an important part of healthcare that involves medical knowledge, scientific analysis and attention to detail, with limited direct patient contact.

“Our medical lab technician students graduate with the skills they need to work in any laboratory setting – a hospital, clinic or research facility – and contribute to the wellbeing of numerous patients over the course of their career,” said Pam Rich, MS, MT (ASCP), program director, who has more than 20 years of medical laboratory science experience.

At Herzing University, master’s-trained faculty who are certified laboratory professionals work closely with students using state-of-the-industry equipment in a laboratory designed especially for their needs. Small class sizes allow for personal attention and hands-on experience for each student.

The Associate of Science and Associate of Applied Science in Medical Laboratory Technician programs are full-time degree programs that can be completed in five semesters. Students are required to take various courses in math, science, medical laboratory method and analysis, as well as core general education and professional development courses. Applications are currently being accepted for January 2014.

To learn more or register for classes, students are encouraged to contact the admissions department of Herzing University – Akron at 330-724-1600 or toll free at 1-855-285-3809 or visit http://www.herzing.edu/akron.

Is it expensive to attend Herzing University?

No. When evaluating universities and colleges in the U.S., it is important to review the tuition structure. In the U.S., in-state tuition is the best available tuition rate. This is the tuition that a U.S. citizen residing in a given state pays to attend universities located in that state.

Herzing University’s tuition is very competitive and compares favorably to U.S. in-state tuition rates. This often makes Herzing University’s competitive tuition rate even more affordable than universities offering scholarships. And our tuition for international students is the same as our tuition for U.S. students; most U.S. universities charge much higher tuition rates for their international students.

Besides tuition, what other costs must I consider?

You’ll need to consider housing costs and personal expenses such as health insurance, a laptop computer, food, clothing, travel and transportation, mobile phone, entertainment, etc. These costs will vary by individual.

And while most U.S. universities have a two semester academic year, Herzing has a three semester academic year. So if you’d like to accelerate your Bachelor’s degree completion to save a year of U.S. living expenses, you can earn your undergraduate degree in three years instead of four.

Or if you prefer, to help you take maximum advantage of your available study time in the U.S. while minimizing costs, Herzing also offers an accelerated program where you can earn both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in four years total. You can also earn a Master’s degree only in as few as 16 months.

What is the annual cost to live in the U.S.?

Herzing University estimates that the annual cost is:

Housing $3,600 – $6,200
Food $2,400 – $3,600
Transportation $600 – $1,200
Health Insurance $500 – $1,000
Other Expenses $2,400 – $3,000
Estimated Annual Total $9,500 – $15,000

Note: the average cost of international airfare to a Herzing University U.S. campus is $700 – $1,200.

Is a U.S. visa difficult to obtain?

If you follow the established process, obtaining an F-1 student visa is not as difficult as you might think. And at Herzing University, we’re here to assist every step of the way. The vast majority of our qualified international students receive an F-1 student visa.

The staff at Herzing University is very familiar with the U.S. government F-1 visa process. We meet regularly with the consular officers. They know us personally and recognize that our students are high-quality, qualified F-1 applicants.

We assist our students in critical areas of the visa process such as demonstrating the intent to return to a home country upon study completion; the ability to finance school, transportation, and living expenses; and English language capability at a sufficiently high level for student success. For complete details, please refer to the visa instructions in your packet.

Do you have dormitories?

No. We have considered it, but our students overwhelmingly prefer apartments (flats). Apartments are nicer, larger, less expensive, and allow students to cook their own food. Apartments also provide a more authentic American living experience than dormitories do. Additionally, apartments are a nicer place to live during American holidays when students vacate the dormitories.

What kind of support system is available to me as a student?

Herzing University offers broad support in a wide variety of areas including academic and student services, housing, transportation, and medical and insurance support.

Additionally, once international students are accepted for enrollment—even prior to arrival in the U.S.—they are paired with a Herzing University on-campus, international student ambassador. The student ambassador is a knowledgeable, accessible Herzing University person who will provide one-on-one assistance with any questions, concerns, or needs you might have. The ambassador is just a call, text, or email away, from the time you are accepted at Herzing University to the moment you graduate. So you’ll have peace of mind, and so will your family back home.

How do I decide which Herzing University campus is right for me?

All Herzing University campuses have the same credentials for academic excellence, so you should choose a campus that offers the program you want to study and fits your preferences for lifestyle, geographic location, and climate. Our Herzing University advisors will work closely with you to help find the campus that is just right for you.

Is Herzing University’s smaller campus size right for me?

Yes, if you are looking for a more personal educational experience. Herzing University’s supportive, personalized approach to education ensures that all Herzing University students have access to the tools and assistance they need to maximize their educational and career success. We pride ourselves on this approach. Herzing University’s leadership, faculty, and staff will get to know you as an individual. This is very different from the experience at a large state university where you may feel like you are just a number. At Herzing University, you will feel like a valued member of our learning community; many students say they feel like they are part of a family at Herzing.

How do I get health insurance in the U.S.?

Herzing University coordinates with leading U.S. health insurance providers. A variety of plans are available for students to purchase, and the plans cover most major medical expenses after any deductible or co-payment requirements have been met. We recommend that you review the available plans in detail to ensure that you select the best plan for your individual health situation.
