BIRMINGHAM, AL, (July 2, 2013) – Herzing University – Birmingham recently earned accreditation for its Associate of Science and Diploma in Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic programs, a credential validating the quality of the programs, which will be important to students as they graduate and enter the job market.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, EMTs and paramedics will be in much higher demand than other professions through 2020, and individuals who have advanced education and certifications will be in the highest demand because they are able to provide a higher level of care to patients before arriving at the hospital. The growing demand for paramedics is being driven by the aging population, which is expected to have more medical emergencies, as well as a trend across the country for volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians in rural areas to be replaced with paid professionals.

“Our paramedic programs were developed to address the increasing demand for professionals with advanced certifications who are able to care for more seriously ill patients, and we offer certificate, diploma and advanced degree programs to help students advance in their careers,” said Leo Deason, public safety department chair at Herzing University – Birmingham. “We have worked hard since the programs were launched to ensure that we earned accreditation before the first classes graduate, and we are very pleased to have succeeded in this effort.”

The Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic programs train students to assess and manage patients with serious illnesses and injuries as they transport them to a medical facility. Incidents as varied as automobile accidents, slips and falls, heart attacks, childbirth and gunshot wounds require immediate medical attention from paramedics, and Herzing University – Birmingham teaches students to apply critical thinking skills as well as formulate and implement a treatment plan for trauma and medical patients of all ages.

The Associate of Science in Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic and the Diploma in Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic at the Birmingham campus are accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

A career as a paramedic is best for individuals who have an interest in patient care, work well under pressure, have good communication and people skills, deal well with emotional or difficult situations and can move quickly while being gentle and deliberate. Paramedics also need to be physically strong and healthy in order to perform well on the job.

An Emergency Medical Technician Basic certificate is a prerequisite for the Diploma program, and this credential can be earned in a four-month program through Herzing University – Birmingham. The Diploma program requires an average of 16 months for completion.

The Associate of Science degree in Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic requires an average of 24 months for completion and, if they choose, graduates can continue on with their career credentials by earning a Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security with a minor in Emergency Medical Technology.

Applications are being accepted for classes starting in September of 2013. To learn more or register for classes, students are encouraged to contact the admissions department of Herzing University – Birmingham at (800) 596-0724 or visit http://www.herzing.edu/birmingham.

MILWAUKEE, WI (February 24, 2014) – Have you ever driven past a field of windmills and wondered who maintains them and keeps them running? It could be you, with an associate degree or diploma in Wind Energy Technology, now available from Herzing University – Online.

“Wind energy is one of the most promising green energy sources and it is growing rapidly across the country,” said Nigel Longworth, campus president of Herzing University – Online. “Our new Wind Energy Technology program is well suited to people who enjoy solving logical systems challenges, and it will enable them to join a growing industry with a lot of career potential across many technical systems jobs.”

The United States has enough wind power capacity to power 15 million homes, and wind energy was the number one source of new energy generating capacity for the country for the year, according to a 2012 report from the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA). There are more than 45,000 operating utility-scale wind turbines operating in the U.S. across 39 states and Puerto Rico, providing jobs for more than 80,000 people and growing.

The Herzing University Wind Energy Technology program covers industrial safety, applied and wind energy physics, energy production from wind and wind energy maintenance. It also covers DC and AC electricity, motors and generators, fluid power, programmable logic controllers and basic mechanics. In addition, students will earn certification in OSHA 10, basic safety and CPR, and a Suzlon Climbing Certificate.

Charles Clayton, Training Manager at Suzlon Wind Energy’s North American training facility agreed that interest in wind energy is on the rise. “Wind energy is just cresting on its potential,” he said. Herzing University is partnering with Suzlon, the 5th largest turbine manufacturer in world, to provide students with a hands-on training component. At the end of the Herzing University wind energy technology program, students will spend two weeks at Suzlon’s 12,000-square-foot training facility—the only facility in the Americas to offer a fully operational, working-height wind turbine dedicated exclusively for training.

The Herzing University diploma program in Wind Energy Technology can be completed in a year and the associate of science degree can be completed in 20 months. To learn more or register for classes, students are encouraged to contact admissions at 1-800-596-0724, or visit www.herzing.edu

MTMI is the first to provide medical imaging professionals with access
to continuing education via live, interactive webinar simulcast technology

WAUKESHA, WI (May 16, 2013) – Medical Technology Management Institute (MTMI) will offer nearly all of its 2013 continuing education (CE) seminars for medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals in live webinar simulcast format, the first education institute in its field to offer this convenient, cost-effective option.

“We recognize that the healthcare delivery system is undergoing tremendous changes with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, as well as the impact of sequestration, both of which have created pressure on training budgets,” said Ed Barnes, president of MTMI. “These budget pressures have made it more difficult for healthcare organizations to pay for all of the training that their professionals require, plus their travel to seminar locations, so we developed webinars and the new interactive webinar simulcast format to help them bridge that financial gap while still experiencing a high quality educational experience.”

The simulcast is a simultaneous streaming of the live program over the internet that enables students to be part of the live cyber-audience with the same opportunity to ask questions or hear others’ questions of the instructor, providing the same educational experience as the classroom students receive.  MTMI also offers many programs via live webinar.

Barnes added, “Students have told us they like the convenience of participating from anywhere there is an internet connection, which allows them to more easily fit continuing education into their busy lives.”

Education that requires hands-on training with medical imaging equipment will continue to be delivered as live classroom and laboratory experiences.  MTMI will also continue to offer an array of courses and seminars in the classroom throughout the U.S. and Canada for individuals who prefer to learn in a face-to-face setting.

Simulcast, webinar and live seminar schedules are available on the MTMI website at www.mtmi.net.
