For our international students, this means that we treat you as part of the Herzing family, and we help you step-by-step in your journey with us to earn your U.S. degree and realize your career goals.

Why earn your U.S. degree online?

According to an extensive 2009 study by the U.S. Department of Education:

“Students who took all or part of their class online performed better, on average, than those taking the same course through traditional face-to-face instruction.”

Enjoy maximum flexibility

Studying for a U.S. degree online can provide you with additional flexibility without sacrificing quality. Busy professionals may not have the luxury of abandoning their job or family to pursue a degree at a traditional campus. Online learning is an excellent solution. To better understand how Herzing’s online courses work, see our Online FAQ’s.

Study in the U.S.

You can also study in the U.S. at one of our select campuses.

Every year, more students choose to earn their U.S. degree by combining online programs with traditional campus-based programs. This is called hybrid learning. At Herzing University Online, hybrid learning may be done in two ways:

  • Combine your Herzing University Online courses with study at one of Herzing’s traditional campuses in the U.S. – The Herzing Online curriculum is designed to be fully integrated with curriculum at other Herzing University campuses, so credits will transfer seamlessly.
  • Combine your Herzing University Online courses with study at a local university in your country – Herzing is open to collaborative study programs with qualified universities around the world. Note that accreditation requirements and degree recognition may differ by country and by university. If you plan to study at a local university, our team may assist you to evaluate if recognition of course credits would be possible.

So, if you’d like to accelerate your bachelor’s degree completion to pursue your career or to save a year of U.S. living expenses, you can earn your degree in three years instead of four. Visa Information

The F-1 Student Visa Process

For international students, the U.S. education visa process can be intimidating. At Herzing University, we’re here to help. The vast majority of our qualified international applicants receive an F-1 student visa.

Below you’ll find an overview of the five main steps in the F-1 student visa application process. For the most specific and current information on applying and receiving your U.S. Student Visa, please go to http://studyinthestates.dhs.gov/students which is an excellent source for the visa application process and questions.

Step One: Gain Admission to Herzing University

The first step is applying to Herzing University. Our admissions process is simple and entirely online. All international students are matched with a personal advisor for step-by-step assistance in submitting all required documentation and information, including transcripts and diplomas.

Herzing University usually provides acceptance decisions to applicants within one week of submitting all required application materials. In some instances we can provide a decision in 72 hours. Additionally, there are up to six times each year that students can begin a Herzing University program. This helps students begin their degree programs as quickly as possible. Many other universities only offer two start times each entire year.

Step Two: Receive Your I-20 Document from Herzing University

The second step is receiving your I-20 document. The I-20 document is a paper record of your information and confirms your eligibility to study at Herzing University. The document will be created by our campus Designated SEVIS Officer and sent to you for your F-1 application. SEVIS [Student and Exchange Visitor Information System] is the U.S. government’s student visa management system.

Step Three: Interview at a U.S. Consulate

The third step is the visa interview at a U.S. consulate. Here you will be asked to show documentation such as your passport, I-20 document, and financial information. You may be asked to demonstrate: the intent to return to your home country upon study completion; the ability to finance your studies, transportation, and living expenses; and English language skills.

At Herzing University we assist our students in all critical areas of the F-1 student visa application process. The staff at Herzing University is very familiar with the visa process.

Step Four: Receive Your F-1 Student Visa

The fourth step is receiving your F-1 student visa. When you are a qualified visa applicant, you will be approved to receive your F-1 student visa and attend Herzing University. Please note that Herzing University has no control over your F-1 visa approval or denial. Once you are approved and have your visa in hand, you can begin making your travel plans to Herzing University.

Step Five: Arrive at Herzing University

The fifth step is starting your journey to Herzing University. This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for! We’re excited that you’re joining the Herzing University family. Welcome!

Is it expensive to attend Herzing University?

No. When evaluating universities and colleges in the U.S., it is important to review the tuition structure. In the U.S., in-state tuition is the best available tuition rate. This is the tuition that a U.S. citizen residing in a given state pays to attend universities located in that state.

Herzing University’s tuition is very competitive and compares favorably to U.S. in-state tuition rates. This often makes Herzing University’s competitive tuition rate even more affordable than universities offering scholarships. And our tuition for international students is the same as our tuition for U.S. students; most U.S. universities charge much higher tuition rates for their international students.

Besides tuition, what other costs must I consider?

You’ll need to consider housing costs and personal expenses such as health insurance, a laptop computer, food, clothing, travel and transportation, mobile phone, entertainment, etc. These costs will vary by individual.

And while most U.S. universities have a two semester academic year, Herzing has a three semester academic year. So if you’d like to accelerate your Bachelor’s degree completion to save a year of U.S. living expenses, you can earn your undergraduate degree in three years instead of four.

Or if you prefer, to help you take maximum advantage of your available study time in the U.S. while minimizing costs, Herzing also offers an accelerated program where you can earn both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in four years total. You can also earn a Master’s degree only in as few as 16 months.

What is the annual cost to live in the U.S.?

Herzing University estimates that the annual cost is:

Housing $3,600 – $6,200
Food $2,400 – $3,600
Transportation $600 – $1,200
Health Insurance $500 – $1,000
Other Expenses $2,400 – $3,000
Estimated Annual Total $9,500 – $15,000

Note: the average cost of international airfare to a Herzing University U.S. campus is $700 – $1,200.

Is a U.S. visa difficult to obtain?

If you follow the established process, obtaining an F-1 student visa is not as difficult as you might think. And at Herzing University, we’re here to assist every step of the way. The vast majority of our qualified international students receive an F-1 student visa.

The staff at Herzing University is very familiar with the U.S. government F-1 visa process. We meet regularly with the consular officers. They know us personally and recognize that our students are high-quality, qualified F-1 applicants.

We assist our students in critical areas of the visa process such as demonstrating the intent to return to a home country upon study completion; the ability to finance school, transportation, and living expenses; and English language capability at a sufficiently high level for student success. For complete details, please refer to the visa instructions in your packet.

Do you have dormitories?

No. We have considered it, but our students overwhelmingly prefer apartments (flats). Apartments are nicer, larger, less expensive, and allow students to cook their own food. Apartments also provide a more authentic American living experience than dormitories do. Additionally, apartments are a nicer place to live during American holidays when students vacate the dormitories.

What kind of support system is available to me as a student?

Herzing University offers broad support in a wide variety of areas including academic and student services, housing, transportation, and medical and insurance support.

Additionally, once international students are accepted for enrollment—even prior to arrival in the U.S.—they are paired with a Herzing University on-campus, international student ambassador. The student ambassador is a knowledgeable, accessible Herzing University person who will provide one-on-one assistance with any questions, concerns, or needs you might have. The ambassador is just a call, text, or email away, from the time you are accepted at Herzing University to the moment you graduate. So you’ll have peace of mind, and so will your family back home.

How do I decide which Herzing University campus is right for me?

All Herzing University campuses have the same credentials for academic excellence, so you should choose a campus that offers the program you want to study and fits your preferences for lifestyle, geographic location, and climate. Our Herzing University advisors will work closely with you to help find the campus that is just right for you.

Is Herzing University’s smaller campus size right for me?

Yes, if you are looking for a more personal educational experience. Herzing University’s supportive, personalized approach to education ensures that all Herzing University students have access to the tools and assistance they need to maximize their educational and career success. We pride ourselves on this approach. Herzing University’s leadership, faculty, and staff will get to know you as an individual. This is very different from the experience at a large state university where you may feel like you are just a number. At Herzing University, you will feel like a valued member of our learning community; many students say they feel like they are part of a family at Herzing.

How do I get health insurance in the U.S.?

Herzing University coordinates with leading U.S. health insurance providers. A variety of plans are available for students to purchase, and the plans cover most major medical expenses after any deductible or co-payment requirements have been met. We recommend that you review the available plans in detail to ensure that you select the best plan for your individual health situation.

Start a New, Fulfilling Career Today

At Herzing University, a college education is within your reach. Whether you are a recent high school grad, an international student, a transfer student, or a working adult, we’ll help you find the right undergraduate program for your educational and career goals.

We offer a personal approach to college admissions. Our admissions advisors are with you every step of the way to answer questions, provide guidance, and help you realize your dream of a college degree.

Let’s Get Started

We’ve made our undergraduate admissions process simple and straightforward. Here is what you need to know to get started.

Admission stages

Step 1 of 4: Meet with an Admissions Advisor
Schedule an interview with one of our admissions advisors. You’ll learn important information about our programs, scheduling, start dates, enrollment requirements, student services, and employment opportunities for graduates. We will also review your prior education, explore our program options with you, and answer any questions you have regarding your education.

For those looking to attend one of our local campuses, we will also take you on a tour to familiarize you with the campus and to provide you with a better understanding of what you can expect from your educational experience.

Step 2 of 4: Apply
Submit your application online or in person at one of our campus locations. We accept applications for admission on a continuous basis, and application requirements vary by location or program. Provide your official high school transcript, GED, or HSED. If you don’t have a copy, please fill out a High School Transcript Request Form to have Herzing request the transcript on your behalf. Upon acceptance to your program, you will be automatically registered into the appropriate classes needed for your program of study.

Follow the links within to learn more about additional admissions requirements or information for military students and veterans, international students, or if you’re transferring from another institution.

Step 3 of 4: Complete Your Enrollment
In addition to working with you to complete your admission requirements, we will continue to work with you to complete your enrollment. This includes putting together a comprehensive funding plan. If you are planning on using the Federal Financial Aid program to help fund your education, you can complete the first step in that process now by completing your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Additionally, you can pay the $50 enrollment fee. Please note that the enrollment fee for Akron and Toledo is $25.

Step 4 of 4: Start classes
This is why you came here and when the fun really begins! We have classes starting every month. We are ready to work with you through all of the required steps to keep you moving forward toward your academic and career goals. (Note: some of our selective programs do not start every month, but your advisor will review this with you when you meet). We will continue to be with you every step of the way through your program of study to assure that your experience with Herzing is second to none.
