Welcome International Students!

Earn your U.S. degree without putting your life on hold.

At Herzing University, we are passionate about educating professionals worldwide with the skills that provide you with new opportunities for career advancement. Herzing University Online was created to provide busy professionals the flexibility of completing your degree online and on your schedule!

Herzing University is committed to provide a career-focused, convenient and caring education that fosters student success both academically and professionally. For our international students, this means that we treat you as part of the Herzing family, and we help you step-by-step in your journey with us to earn your U.S. degree and realize your career goals.

Why earn your U.S. degree online?

According to an extensive 2009 study by the U.S. Department of Education:

“Students who took all or part of their class online performed better, on average, than those taking the same course through traditional face-to-face instruction.”

Enjoy maximum flexibility

Studying for a U.S. degree online can provide you with additional flexibility without sacrificing quality. Busy professionals may not have the luxury of abandoning their job or family to pursue a degree at a traditional campus. Online learning is an excellent solution. To better understand how Herzing’s online courses work, see our Online FAQ’s.

Study in the U.S.

You can also study in the U.S. at one of our select campuses.

Every year, more students choose to earn their U.S. degree by combining online programs with traditional campus-based programs. This is called hybrid learning. At Herzing University Online, hybrid learning may be done in two ways:

  • Combine your Herzing University Online courses with study at one of Herzing’s traditional campuses in the U.S. – The Herzing Online curriculum is designed to be fully integrated with curriculum at other Herzing University campuses, so credits will transfer seamlessly.
  • Combine your Herzing University Online courses with study at a local university in your country – Herzing is open to collaborative study programs with qualified universities around the world. Note that accreditation requirements and degree recognition may differ by country and by university. If you plan to study at a local university, our team may assist you to evaluate if recognition of course credits would be possible.

Online - FAQs

Here you will find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about financial aid. Please contact an advisor if you need clarification or have further questions.

General Questions

How do I know if I’m eligible for Financial Aid through Herzing University?

You are eligible if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are a citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • You have a valid social security number (unless you are from the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, or the Republic of Palau).
  • You are registered with the selective service if you are male, age 18-25. If you have not yet registered, go to http://www.sss.gov/ for more information.
  • You have a high school diploma, GED, or pass an exam approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • You are enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a regular student working toward a degree or certificate in an eligible program at a school that participates in the federal student aid programs.
  • You do not have a drug conviction for an offense that occurred while you were receiving federal student aid.
  • You must not owe a refund on a federal grant or be in default on a federal student loan.
  • You must demonstrate financial need (except for unsubsidized Stafford Loans).

How soon before enrolling should I start the financial aid process?

As soon as you have decided to further your education, you should start the financial aid process by first requesting your PIN and then begin filling out your FAFSA form.

What is the Herzing University school code for FAFSA?

Students attending all Herzing campuses should include the school code for the Madison, Wisconsin, location: 009621.

My FAFSA form has been processed. What is my EFC?

The EFC is your Estimated Family Contribution. Based on the information you provided on your FAFSA, the government estimates the amount your family will be able to contribute for that school year. Please note: It is common for this EFC number to change once Herzing University’s Educational Funding Department reviews your application and makes any necessary updates to your FAFSA information.

What is the Student Aid Report (SAR)?

The Student Aid Report shows the information you provided on your FAFSA form, along with your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) figure, and Data Release Number (DRN). Review this information carefully. If you need to make any corrections, go to Make Corrections to a Processed FAFSA.

When do I know how much financial aid I will receive?

Once you have been accepted to Herzing University and have fulfilled all requirements for the financial aid application, you will receive a Financial Aid Award Letter detailing your Financial Aid Award Package, including the dollar amount and type of aid you will receive.

How and when is my financial aid money disbursed?

Once you accept your Financial Aid Award Package and begin classes, your financial aid award money will be applied to your account at Herzing University to cover the cost of tuition. Any remaining money will be mailed as a check to your address on file according to the mail dates indicated on your award letter, unless you choose to return the unused portion to the lender. Please note: It is the student’s responsibility to communicate any name and/or address changes to Herzing University.

What if financial aid does not cover my full tuition amount?

You are responsible for any balance on your account that is not covered by financial aid. Possible payment options include cash or credit card, employer tuition reimbursement, military benefits, or scholarships. Contact an educational funding officer to learn more.

What happens if I withdraw from a course or Herzing University?

Any changes to your enrollment status may affect financial aid eligibility. If you need to withdraw from a course(s), please speak to your advisor to discuss the potential ramifications on your financial aid.

Dependent Students

According to my FAFSA form, I’m considered a dependent student. What does this mean?

Based on your age, marital status, and family status, you may be considered a dependent student and you will need your parent’s help when completing the financial aid process. If you have questions about being declared a dependent student, or if your parents are divorced and you’re not sure which parent(s) need to supply information, please contact an educational funding officer.

What if I am a dependent student, but my parents won’t complete their portion of the financial aid forms?

Unfortunately, if your parents are unwilling to provide the required information then you will likely be ineligible for federal and state financial aid. Please contact an educational funding officer if you have questions about your specific situation.

Verification

What is verification?

Verification if a common step in the financial aid process. If your FAFSA is selected for verification by either the U.S. Department of Education or Herzing University Financial Aid, you will be asked to submit additional information to verify that the questions on your FAFSA form were answered correctly.

What happens if my FAFSA is selected for verification?

If selected for verification, you will be required to submit a Verification Worksheet (provided by your Educational Funding Department) and some, or all, of the following:

  • A copy of your most recent federal tax filing, and your spouse’s or parent’s tax filing if applicable. You can request a free Tax Transcript from the IRS Tax Transcript Request Line by calling 800-829-1040 (fastest service) or go to http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Order-a-Transcript

While most U.S. universities have a two semester academic year, Herzing University has a three semester academic year. So, if you’d like to accelerate your bachelor’s degree completion to pursue your career or to save a year of U.S. living expenses, you can earn your degree in three years instead of four. Or, to help you take maximum advantage of your available study time in the U.S., Herzing University also offers an accelerated program where you can earn both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in four years total.

Gain Practical Work Experience Through OPT

Optional Practical Training [OPT] is U.S. work experience that Herzing University international students with F-1 status can gain for up to one year after completing their degrees, through the permission of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. If you are approved for this program, you can extend your student visa for one year while you gain valuable U.S. work experience.

Simple, Facilitated Admissions Process and Online Enrollment

At Herzing University, our admissions process is completed entirely online. The process is simple, and each international student is matched with a personal advisor for step-by-step assistance in submitting online all required documentation and information, including transcripts and diplomas. Once you are accepted into Herzing University, enrollment in your courses is also entirely online for maximum convenience.

Fast Acceptance and Three Start Dates Per Year

At Herzing University, we typically provide acceptance decisions within one week of receiving all required application materials.  Most other U.S. universities take much longer.  We also have three start dates each year for students to begin their Herzing University programs in the U.S. This helps students begin their studies in the U.S. as soon as possible.

Favorable Tuition and Fees

In the U.S., in-state tuition is the best available tuition rate. This is the tuition that a U.S. citizen residing in a given state pays to attend universities located in that state.

Herzing University’s tuition is very competitive, and it compares favorably to U.S. in-state tuition rates. This often makes Herzing University’s competitive tuition rate even more affordable than schools offering scholarships.

Step 3 of 4: Complete Your Enrollment
In addition to working with you to complete your admission requirements, we will continue to work with you to complete your enrollment. This includes putting together a comprehensive funding plan. If you are planning on using the Federal Financial Aid program to help fund your education, you can complete the first step in that process now by completing your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Additionally, you can pay the $50 enrollment fee. Please note that the enrollment fee for Akron and Toledo is $25.

Step 4 of 4: Start classes
This is why you came here and when the fun really begins! We have classes starting every month. We are ready to work with you through all of the required steps to keep you moving forward toward your academic and career goals.

You can have any remaining money sent to you by direct deposit or mailed as a check to your address on file, according to the mail dates indicated on your award letter, unless you choose to return the unused portion to the lender. We strongly advise that you only accept the money you absolutely need, in order to lessen your loan repayment amounts in the future.

Contact an educational funding advisor to learn more.

If you have questions about being declared a dependent student, or if your parents are divorced and you’re not sure which parent(s) need to supply information, please contact an educational funding advisor.

What if I am a dependent student, but my parents won’t complete their portion of the financial aid forms?

Unfortunately, if your parents are unwilling to provide the required information then you will likely be ineligible for federal and state financial aid. Please contact an educational funding advisor if you have questions about your specific situation.
