Chi Chang - My Story

My Story

By Chi Zhang

When I decided to quit from my work at China Merchants Bank (CMB) in July 2011, no one thought that I was a mind-healthy guy. Since I graduated from China University of Political Science and Law with my Bachelor Degree of Law in 2009, I served CMB as an account manager of Corporate Banking Service Department. I was promoted to Senior Account Manager in just two years, which is the fastest record in CMB, and I enjoyed a good income. Everyone thought that Zhang might be crazy. However, I realized that the decision to quit is hard but important and positive for me. In my plan, CMB is not a career for me--even though this bank is a brilliant place for study, and I, because of my “financial” and “banker” family, was good at it. All experiences and knowledge I learned from CMB would be the basis of my dream and future career. But before I practice my dream, I still have another important thing to do.

I needed to go to the strongest economic country and looked around. I wanted to know why this state was the land of free and the home of brave. I hoped to understand and learn business knowledge from the core of current global economy. This trip would not only give me a Master Degree but also give me answers for my future. By the guide of fate, Herzing University is the destiny of all of these. Thanks to Dr. Xintao Liu’s help, I got an opportunity to become the first group of on-ground MBA students of Herzing University - Atlanta in May 2012. And finally, I arrived in Atlanta in August 2012 and started my one-and-a-half years of study in the U.S.

One-and-a-half years is not long to push me facing my future. I have my dream in automobile industry. I was a petrol head since I was a little boy, and still loved cars every day now. However, I also understood that I could earn every high salary if I went back to financial industry and continually worked for banks. Because of the characters of those two different industries, the average salary in automobile industry was no match to this in financial industry. I discussed my future with many professors like Dr. Vest and Dr. Point Johnson. They both told me the same thing: “The career is different with the job. Some people have careers and some people have jobs. The people who have careers feel the time is too short; but the people who have jobs always feel there is too much time.” I knew that the career is the way to make my life valuable and happy. That is why I concentrated to research automobile industry and finally only sent my résumé to automotive companies.

Now, I am working for Beijing Hainachuan Automotive Parts Co., Ltd (BHAP). My position is the executive secretary and the personal assistant of the President. My work is participating in business negotiations and company operations, and providing suggestions to the President. Thanks to Herzing and professors, I feel happy every day for doing things that I love very much. Also, the language advantage of English and Chinese make me more competitive. The most important, the experience in the U.S. teaches me “Who Dares, Wins”.
