    What are the career opportunities in this field?

    Depending on where you want to go with your HR degree, you could be in charge of hiring employees, managing healthcare plans, handling payroll, and/or making sure your company follows all worker health and safety regulations. In addition, new kinds of human resources specialists will be needed, such as employment mediators. Employment mediators help ensure better negotiations between labor and management. Other growing HR opportunities include international human resources managers and human resources information systems specialists.

    Employers seek graduates of human resources associate or bachelor’s degree programs when filling entry-level HR positions. Employers may prefer applicants with experience in a particular field, such as manufacturing, technology, or legal, to match with the company’s industry. This experience translates into a better understanding of the concerns of the employee groups who work at the organization.

    Typical duties for entry-level personnel will vary depending on the specialty area, but generally include administrative duties, such as data entry, phone reception, and research. These duties help new HR professionals learn about the organization and profession.

    Larger employers often have on-the-job training programs that progressively introduce new hires to the different areas and tasks within the human resources departments. This gives new HR professionals the chance to get to know different departments and processes before they’re placed in a specific area the best suits their skills, interests, and the organization’s needs.

    Where do they work?

    Human resources professionals typically work in an office environment. Some may work from home occasionally, and others frequently travel (especially those performing recruiting or training roles). Work weeks are typically 40 hours, however those involved in contract disputes or mediation may work additional hours when contracts are being prepared and negotiated.

    HR professionals often receive compensation and benefits packages that include health care, retirement savings plan(s) and paid vacation/sick time.

    How do I advance in this career?

    To advance in the field of human resources management, you'll need a formal college education, either an associate or bachelor's degree in human resources. Certain specialties or employers may require a master’s degree with a concentration in human resources. Certification is also highly desirable by employers, and most upper-level human resource professionals have at least one certification.

    What is the job outlook for this career?

    As the number of businesses increases, employment in human resources-related careers is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations. Many of these new positions will be created by employers as a measure to ensure all occupational safety, equal opportunity, family leave, and other regulations/guidelines are met. Other human resources professionals will be employed to create attractive benefits packages to help companies offset the rising cost of health care benefits for its employees with other perks.

    The number of human resources consulting agencies is also increasing. These agencies can offer lucrative careers for professionals with specialty areas such as employee compensation and training. Those with college degrees and certification will have the greatest job prospects.

    As part of Herzing’s business programs, the Bachelor of Science in Human Resources degree focuses on human resources as part of the core skill package critical to success. Students gain the capabilities needed to handle a wide range of responsibilities. Graduates are prepared for positions as office managers, human resource staff, and employee recruiters as well as payroll, healthcare and safety administrators.

    All our business courses are taught by professionals with a minimum of a master's degree at the undergraduate level. Many business faculty come to the classroom with several years of real-world business experience.

    Herzing University has received specialized accreditation for its business programs through the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE). Students graduating with a Herzing human resources degree will know that their degree meets the highest of international standards.

    Required Management Core Courses

    All courses, 36.00 semester credit hours, are required.

    Required Courses in Human Resources Management

    All courses, 27.00 semester credit hours, are required.

    Business Elective Courses

    A minimum of 9.00 semester credit hours is required. Students may take any business, accounting, human resources, or economics course.

    Open Elective Courses

    A minimum of 9.00 semester credit hours is required. A minimum of 3.00 semester credit hours must be at the 300 to 400 level.

    Required Capstone or Internship

    3.00 semester credit hours are required.

    Required Courses in General Education

    Students enrolled in this bachelor's degree must complete a minimum of 36.00 semester credit hours in general education distributed among the following disciplines.     Dual Credit Opportunity

    Students enrolled in Herzing University's human resources  bachelor’s degree program can save time and money on earning a Herzing University online MBA.

    • Dual Credit – This program allows current bachelor's degree students the opportunity to exchange up to four courses (12 credits) in their bachelor's degree program with MBA courses.
    • Herzing bachelor's degree students and alumni receive a 15% tuition scholarship on their master's degree courses while an undergraduate student!

    Note: The MBA and Dual Credit are not offered at all locations; please check with your local campus for availability.

    Herzing's MBA programs all begin with "business level-setting" courses. Whether a student has years of business experience or not, students will begin with fundamentals that will be a refresher for some and an introduction for others. Additionally Herzing offers tutors and academic support resources both on-campus and through Herzing Online.

    Herzing's business program is different because it is focused on leadership development according to what has been identified by employers in the global market.

    Specifically Herzing's business program offers:

    1. Practical Experience - Students will gain practical experience, understanding the impact of a Changing Global Economy even at the local "mom & pop" level; importance of Leveraging Technology and information to make decisions; and the key skills of Professionalism & Teamwork that are essential to leadership and management.
    2. Industry Certifications - Graduates will earn more than a degree, they will have the opportunity to earn sought-after industry certifications.
    3. Up-to-Two Concentrations - Students in the MBA program have the option to enhance their academic experience by completing up-to-two concentrations.
    4. Dual Credit - Students in the undergraduate program can get a "jump start" on a MBA at the same time. Up-to 12 graduate credits could be taken while still an undergraduate and applied toward both degrees, thereby saving both money and time.
    5. Transfer Friendly - Students with an associate degree from an accredited institution like a Community College can receive up-to 60 credits toward a Herzing Bachelor's degree, and in some instances may receive more. DEGREE UP students are provided with the opportunity to transfer in additional credits earned after completing an associate degree. Herzing will review all transcripts a student may have, as there is an ability to transfer up-to 75% of their previous credit load toward their Herzing program, thereby saving them time and money.
    Answer:

    Program length can vary depending upon degree level, number of concentrations, course load and credits transferred, as well as class schedule.

    Associate degree is 4-semesters and with a full-time schedule can be completed in two (2) years.

    Bachelor's degree program is 9 semesters and depending upon transfer credits, can be completed as a full-time student in three (3) years.

    • When transferring in a Herzing Associate degree: the Bachelor's program can be completed in 4-semesters or 2-years.
    • Students with an associate degree from an accredited institution like a Community College can receive up-to 60 credits toward a Herzing Bachelor's degree saving them time and money.

    Graduate degree is a 3-semester program and a student can transfer in up-to 18 credit hours.
