It has been a lifelong goal of mine to obtain my bachelor’s degree in legal studies. I have more than 12 years of combined government experience as a city councilor, a county commissioner and a president and board member of several local organizations. When I moved to Georgia, I realized that it was the perfect time for me to go back to school, so I started looking for universities that were American Bar Association (ABA) certified. I chose Herzing for the ABA accreditation and because I would be able to take the majority of my legal classes on-ground with amazing, qualified instructors.
Going back to school at the age of 50 was scary and challenging, but my instructors were great! Everyone I met was understanding, patient, sincere and passionate about their jobs. My instructors really cared about my success and they helped me believe in myself. Everything that I learned in the classroom, combined with my past experience in the workforce, has helped me achieve a better understanding of the legal field and has put my career in new perspective.
Walking across that stage in front of my peers on graduation day will be one of my biggest personal accomplishments. I love my school, and I will always cherish my experience at Herzing. My husband, my children and my grandchildren have been my inspiration to not give up. I always say, “If I can do it at the age of 51, then you can do it!” Thanks, Herzing, for making my dream possible!
