Herzing awarded AANAPISI grant
Herzing, Minneapolis is an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI). This federal designation aligns with Herzing’s aspiration to be a national leader and global model of inclusive excellence. As a healthcare education provider, the issues that impact equitable healthcare are particularly close to our mission.
HU’s core belief is that if you want to improve access to quality healthcare for all communities, you need to change the face of who works in healthcare to more closely represent the communities they serve.

Focus On Student Retention
Herzing is utilizing targeted interventions to ensure continued and improved first-year retention rates for AANAPI students. HU prides itself on graduation rates as they are the ultimate measure of student and institutional success. Seeing more students graduate and find fulfilling, meaningful work is our #1 goal.
Enhanced Tutoring Services
Healthcare programs culminate with a high-stakes exam to secure a license to practice. Herzing’s focus is to improve the academic performance and career readiness of students through increased utilization of academic and co-curricular supportive services and professional licensure preparation. Our healthcare programs have built-in milestones to help us identify when a student needs additional support.
Campus Cultural Center
This is a space on campus for students to collaborate with each other and with faculty. Students can study, access modern workstations, and take proctored exams with accommodations. This is the place where HU will offer peer-to-peer mentoring, facilitate workshops for lowering test anxiety, offer mental health services, and have a little fun too - with events that raise awareness and increase cultural sensitivity.
Timelines
The AANAPSI Grant began in late 2023 and will run through September 2028. HU is excited about what these additional resources will mean for our diverse student population and looks forward to sharing results along the way.
