Herzing Scholarships

Applications are required for all Herzing University scholarships and grants. To obtain an application or to determine your eligibility for any of the scholarships and grants listed below, please contact the Educational Funding Department. Additional details about any of the scholarships and grants listed are available upon request from the Educational Funding Department.

Henry G. Herzing Scholar’s Award

Eligible Recipients:

  • Students new to Herzing University who enroll on or after 1/5/2015
  • Re-entry and re-enroll students are not eligible
  • Undergraduate programs only

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must score at least a 24 on the Wonderlic
  • At least half-time status for duration of program, except during a Mod B mini-start if applicable
  • Continuous enrollment
  • Cannot be enrolled in BHM’s Certificate or Diploma EMT programs

Scholarship amount(s):

  • $1,000

Disbursement details:

  • Scholarship will be disbursed in the last semester of the student’s program
  • Students that withdraw prior to their last semester will lose eligibility for the scholarship

Herzing University Lifelong Learning Alumni Scholarship

Eligible Recipients:

  • Herzing University graduates who re-enroll in a higher level degree on or after 1/5/2015, and who remain continuously enrolled in their re-enrollment program
  • Both undergraduate and graduate students qualify
  • Re-entry students are not eligible
  • Students may qualify as many times as they re-enroll in a higher level degree; for example: if a student completes a Diploma, then an Associate, then a Bachelor’s and then a Master’s degree program they could receive this scholarship in the last semester of each program

Eligibility Requirements:

  • At least half-time status for duration of program, except during a Mod B mini-start if applicable
  • Continuous enrollment
  • Cannot be enrolled in BHM’s Certificate or Diploma EMT programs

Scholarship Amount(s):

  • $1,000 for Diploma Graduates enrolling in an Associate Degree program
  • $2,000 for Diploma or Associate Degree Graduates enrolling in a Bachelor Degree program
  • $2,000 for Bachelor Degree Graduates enrolling in a Master Degree program

Disbursement Details:

  • Scholarship will be disbursed in the last semester of the student’s program
  • Students that withdraw prior to their last semester will lose eligibility for the scholarship

Nursing Pathway to Success Scholarship

The Nursing Pathway to Success Scholarship (previously called the Nursing Programmatic Scholarship) is available to students attending the Online Campus only. Students must enroll and begin coursework by January 12, 2016. Restrictions may apply.

Eligible Recipients:

  • Alumni: graduates of a Herzing University ground campus nursing program entering into Online’s BSNB program (max scholarship: $10,000)
  • Referrals: first-time Herzing University students entering into Online’s BSNB program who are referred by a Herzing graduate (max scholarship: $7,500)
  • New Students (non-referrals): new Herzing University students entering into Online’s BSNB program (max scholarship: $5,000)
  • Graduate Students: students entering into one of Online’s Master of Science in Nursing programs (MSNFNP, MSNNE) (max scholarship: $2,000)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Students must be packaged at direct cost
  • Minimum enrollment status of half-time (6 credits per semester undergrad, 4 credits per semester grad)
  • Minimum programmatic GPA: 2.0 undergrad, 3.0 grad
  • Continuous enrollment is required; students who separate from the University for any reason will lose eligibility for this scholarship should they re-enter

Scholarship amount(s):

  • Alumni: $2,000 per semester (full-time) or $1,000 per semester (part-time) for up to 5 semesters
  • Referrals: $1,500 per semester (full-time) or $750 per semester (part-time) for up to 5 semesters
  • New Students (non-referrals): $1,000 per semester (full-time) or $500 per semester (part-time) for up to 5 semesters
  • Graduate Students: $500 per semester (full-time) or $250 per semester (part-time) for up to 4 semesters

Disbursement details:

  • Scholarship will be disbursed in the last month of each semester

Pledged Scholarship

Some Herzing University campuses may have pledged limited scholarship funds for specific purposes or student situations. To find out if your campus offers a Pledged Scholarship, and if you might be eligible, please contact the Educational Funding Department.

  • Varies

Badge to Grad Grant

Some public safety personnel, and their spouses and dependents, may qualify for the Badge to Grad Grant. Eligible students must be packaged at direct cost and agree to make at least a $50 monthly payment toward tuition charges. If you are employed as a police officer, firefighter, EMT, corrections officer, or in another public safety position, please contact the Educational Funding Department for more information.

Financial Responsibility Grant

Herzing University will match between 25% and 100% of student payments (up to $1,000) for students that qualify. Eligible students cannot borrow excess loan funds at any time during their enrollment and must make their payments on time, according to a predetermined payment plan. Restrictions may apply.

Eligible Recipients:

  • Any student in a degree-seeking program that makes on-time, out-of-pocket payments toward tuition and fee expenses

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be packaged at direct cost for entire program
  • Continuous enrollment is required; students who separate from the University for any reason will lose eligibility for this grant should they re-enter (unless an exception is made by the Director of Educational Funding or Campus President)

Grant amount(s):

  • Herzing will match each out-of-pocket payment up to $1,000
  • Matching percentage is based on student’s EFC at the time of application. Students who do not complete a FAFSA will automatically qualify for Tier 4.

Military Appreciation Grant

U.S. Veterans, Active Duty U.S. Servicemembers, Severely Injured U.S. Servicemembers and the spouses and dependents of U.S. Active Duty and Severely Injured U.S. Servicemembers may qualify. Restrictions may apply.

  • Typically 10% of tuition charges per semester, but grant amount may vary based on program.

 

Partnership Grant

Some companies have partnered with Herzing University in order for their employees to receive a grant to reduce tuition. In addition, employees of Lenox Mall (Atlanta, GA), students who graduated with an Associate Degree from certain community and technical colleges, and students receiving assistance through Montana Workforce Development may qualify for the Partnership Grant. Please inquire with your employer, or with the Educational Funding Department, to determine eligibility. Restrictions may apply.

Nebraska State Grants

Nebraska Opportunity Grant (formerly Nebraska State Grant)

In order to qualify for the Nebraska Opportunity Grant, undergraduate students must demonstrate financial need as defined by the state and be Nebraska residents. Wisconsin State Grants

Wisconsin State Grants only apply to Wisconsin residents, enrolled at the Herzing University - Online, Herzing University - Brookfield, Herzing University - Kenosha, and Herzing University - Madison campuses. Herzing University is approved to award the following grants to students who qualify. Please contact the Educational Funding Department for further information.

Wisconsin Grant

The Wisconsin Grant program provides grant assistance to undergraduate, Wisconsin residents enrolled at least half-time in degree or certificate programs at nonprofit, independent colleges or universities based in Wisconsin. Awards are based on financial need and partially based on that portion of tuition in excess of UW-Madison tuition. The maximum award amount is established annually by HEAB. Eligibility cannot exceed ten semesters. To apply, students must complete the FAFSA prior to HEAB’s waitlist date. Indian Student Assistance Grant

Awards under this program are made to Wisconsin residents who are at least 25% Native American and are undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in degree or certificate programs. To apply, students must complete the FAFSA and Indian Student Assistance Grant Application. Award amounts vary, but cannot exceed $1,100. If you think you may qualify, please contact the Educational Funding Department to obtain an application. 

Minority Undergraduate Retention Grant

Awards under this program are made to Wisconsin resident minority undergraduates, excluding first year students, enrolled at least half-time. According to the statutes, a minority student is defined as a student who is either an African American; American Indian; Hispanic; or Southeast Asian from Laos, Cambodia, or Vietnam admitted to the U.S. after December 31, 1975. Award amounts vary, but cannot exceed $2,500. To apply, students must complete the FAFSA and be nominated by Herzing. Please note: Herzing University receives a limited allocation of funds for the Minority Undergraduate Retention Grant, and not all students who meet basic eligibility requirements for this grant will be able to receive grant funds.

Hearing & Visually Handicapped Student Grant

The Handicapped Student Grant Program was established to provide funding for undergraduate Wisconsin residents, enrolled at least half-time, that show financial need and have a severe or profound hearing or visual impairment. For purposes of this grant the hearing loss must be 40 decibels or greater in the better ear and/or the vision loss must be 20/200 or less in the better eye or the field of vision must be 20 degrees or less in the better eye. Award amounts vary, but cannot exceed $2,500. To apply, students must complete the FAFSA and Hearing & Visually Handicapped Student Grant Application. Academic Excellence Scholarship

Academic Excellence Scholarships are awarded to Wisconsin high school seniors who have the highest grade point average in each public and private high school throughout the State of Wisconsin. In order to receive a scholarship, a student must be enrolled on a full-time basis by September 30th of the academic year following the academic year in which he or she was designated as a scholar, at a participating University of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Technical College, or independent institution in the state. Students must be continually enrolled from term to term and maintain at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA. There is no application process – recipients are designated by their high school based on GPA. Award amount is $2,250 per year, to be applied towards tuition. Eligibility cannot exceed 8 semesters.

Wisconsin Covenant Program

Each student who has fulfilled the Wisconsin Covenant pledge is recognized as a Wisconsin Covenant Scholar and will receive a Wisconsin Covenant Scholars Grant of at least $250 for up to 8 semesters. Note: The Wisconsin Covenant Program was discontinued and the last cohort of students able to sign the pledge was in September, 2011; therefore, 2015 high school graduates are the last cohort of students who will continue to receive this benefit, if eligible. For more information about how the Wisconsin Covenant Program determines eligibility, visit: http://wisconsincovenant.wi.gov/. Students must be enrolled at least half-time and maintain SAP. If a student fails to meet SAP for one semester, they cannot regain eligibility. To continue to receive the grant, students must complete the FAFSA each year. The Degree Project

The Degree Project (TDP) is a scholarship program provided by Great Lakes and administered by HEAB. In November 2011, a group of MPS (Milwaukee Public Schools) students were randomly selected to participate in The Degree Project. This pilot program was designed to help motivate students to complete high school and prepare for college. The Degree Project promises up to $12,000 in scholarships to eligible students for use at Wisconsin 2-year, 4-year, or technical colleges. Students are eligible for funds starting August 30, 2015 through June 30, 2019, but must attend an eligible college prior to September 30, 2016. Eligible students will have graduated by August 30, 2015 from an eligible MPS high school with a regular diploma (i.e. not a GED); earned a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher at time of graduation; and attended high school regularly with a cumulative attendance record of 90% or higher at time of graduation. Eligible students must attend an eligible Wisconsin college or university, at least half-time, by 9/30/2016, and have financial need. To remain eligible through June 30, 2019, students must file the FAFSA each year and maintain SAP. Federal Grants

In general, students may be eligible for Title IV aid if the following provisions apply:

  • The student is enrolled as a regular student in a Title IV-eligible program.
  • The student is a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • The student meets the need requirements specified.

  • The student is not in default on a Title IV loan received at any institution.
  • The student has not met or exceeded aggregate loan limits.
  • The student is not concurrently receiving Title IV financial aid from another institution of higher education.
  • The student has not met or exceeded Pell lifetime eligibility limits.
  • The student does not owe a refund or repayment on a Federal Pell Grant, ACG, National SMART Grant, or Federal SEOG.

Information regarding disbursements

All Federal Grant disbursements will begin in Week 3 of each student’s award period. Funds are applied to student’s ledger accounts and excess funds will be disbursed within 14 days after the date of disbursement. Textbooks are included in the cost of tuition therefore Pell eligible students will not receive early disbursements of the Federal Pell Grant.

Federal Pell Grants are given to undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. Students are required to fill out a FAFSA in order to qualify. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants are awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional financial need. Students must be Pell eligible undergraduate students, attending at a half-time or greater status, who have not earned a bachelor’s degree. Students are required to fill out a FAFSA in order to qualify.
