Amanda Rodman
From a young age, I have been deeply passionate about the medical field. The complexity of the human body, the intricacies of healthcare, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives have always fascinated me. Over the years, this connection to the medical world has only strengthened my desire to pursue a career dedicated to improving others' well-being. Earning a degree in healthcare became my goal, leading me to Herzing.
The support I received at Herzing was incredible! When I began my journey as a full-time student, I was also balancing a full-time job and raising five children. It was challenging from the start, but with determination, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to succeed, I pushed through. My motto is to NEVER give up!
The structured curriculum helped me stay organized, while the supportive faculty kept me motivated. I developed essential time management skills, took advantage of study resources, and benefited from flexible scheduling. The advising services ensured I remained on track, allowing me to complete my degree on time.
Clinical experience and key courses were vital in preparing me for a career as a medical assistant. Hands-on training in real healthcare settings sharpened my skills in patient care, vital signs, procedures, and record-keeping. Courses such as Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology and Medical Office Procedures provided me with crucial knowledge in understanding the human body, effective communication, medication management and administrative duties. Together, these experiences formed a solid foundation for the responsibilities of a medical assistant.
One surprising aspect of pursuing my degree in medical assisting was the diverse range of skills I needed to master. In addition to clinical tasks, I received training in administrative duties such as patient intake, billing, managing electronic records and upholding professionalism and ethics. This comprehensive education has fully equipped me for the multifaceted demands of the profession.
My advice to students pursuing a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant degree is to prioritize organization, communication skills, hands-on experience and staying informed about medical advancements. Additionally, seek mentorship, practice professionalism, be flexible and adaptable and take care of your well-being. These elements will enhance your learning experience and prepare you for a successful and fulfilling career in healthcare. And, of course, never give up!
I’m thrilled to share that after graduation, I will be working full-time as a CCMA in Neurology!
