Congratulations to Jenni Mattie, the winner of the $2,500 grand prize in the NEA “Big Read” Show Your True Grit Scholarship!
Jenni describes a person with true grit as being “brave, resourceful and persevering.” Jenni showed her true grit while she raised two children when her husband was deployed in the Middle East. She continued to be brave and persevering as she helped her husband through the challenges of transitioning back into civilian life when he returned. Jenni read her winning essay at the award ceremony and book discussion at Herzing University in Kenosha on November 3rd.
