Herzing’s Madison campus hosted an engaging informational session for students interested in correctional nursing on March 7, 2017. Ashley, a correctional nurse at a local county jail, spoke about her nursing experience as well as the growing demand for nurses in correctional facilities across the nation.
Correctional nurses provide care for patients in prisons, jails and juvenile detention centers. They perform many of the same tasks as nurses in more traditional settings, treating patients’ chronic conditions as well as trauma, mental illness and substance abuse. Informational sessions like these help educate Herzing nursing students about the diverse career paths available to LPNs and RNs.
