Herzing-Minneapolis dental hygiene and dental assisting students volunteered their time and services at Special Smiles on March 25, 2017. Special Smiles is affiliated with Special Olympics, dedicated to creating awareness and improving access to dental care for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. In addition to learning about preventive dental care, the athletes were fitted for athletic mouth guards and received fluoride varnish applications. The 20 student volunteers from Herzing were enthusiastic to work with the athletes and many will volunteer again in June for the Summer Games.
“We’re incredibly proud of our students for volunteering their time to work with the athletes and it is exciting for them to see how meaningful this work truly is,” said Herzing-Minneapolis Campus President Jason Morgan.
