I chose Sterile Processing because, as a vet tech, making surgical packs was my favorite part of the job. When I transitioned to human healthcare, I was surprised to discover that there is a department dedicated solely to creating packs and sterilizing instruments! After learning about this, a regional medical center offered me the program and recommended Herzing University as an excellent choice of school to attend.
Balancing classes with my personal life was challenging, but I ultimately achieved my goals. Throughout this journey, Lee-Ann Knorr, and Matt Sedlar provided invaluable support, helping me develop a schedule that allowed me to rearrange my commitments and prioritize my study time.
As I progressed through my studies, I was surprised to discover how interconnected everything is in this field, especially concerning contamination risks and the critical importance of 100% sterilization.
Microbiology emerged as one of the most valuable classes in my career, enhancing my understanding of the concepts related to Sterile Processing. I’m grateful for the essential knowledge I gained!
My advice to future students is to study diligently and continue your education even after the program ends. Certification exams are also essential for success in this field, so don't underestimate their importance!
