Career with Uncle Sam? Federal Recruiters Emphasize Value of Higher Ed

Recruiters from several federal agencies came to campus from 6 to 8 pm Monday, June 6 to underscore the importance of a degree in criminal justice when applying for certain federal jobs. Representatives from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the Secret Service, State Highway Patrol, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and several law enforcement sectors answered questions and talked with the approximately 60 students in attendance.

“A student’s education will greatly improve their chances at being considered for a federal position,” said Robert Allshouse, OPEER investigator with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

“The simple fact that someone has earned an education gives an employer the notion that the student has the ability to commit, focus, strive and learn. Almost 99 percent of the executives within the government or private sector will have been educated.”

Recruiters repeatedly expressed how impressed they were with the Herzing University - Toledo students.

“These students displayed a confident and energetic personality,” Allshouse said. “They acted and dressed professionally, maintained eye contact, were focused on the conversation, asked important questions, displayed leadership and knowledge and were very appreciative. I hope to soon see them in the workplace!”
