The healthcare industry is expected to continue growing as we head into 2022 and beyond, primarily driven by our aging population and a greater need for healthcare services. COVID-19 is also creating more demand for healthcare workers, according to the American Hospital Association.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) expects healthcare-related careers to grow 16% across the industry, which is faster than the national average. This growth is expected to add around 2.6 million new healthcare jobs between 2020-2030.
Here are some of the fastest-growing healthcare jobs and the educational background you need to get started in the field in 2022:
1. Nurse Practitioners (NP)

- How long is the program? NP program length varies by curriculum/specialty
If you’re already a nurse looking to advance or pivot your career, completing your Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and to become a nurse practitioner might be something to consider. Although responsibilities can vary by specialization, NPs generally provide advanced care to patients such as diagnosing and treating a variety of illnesses, prescribing medication and implementing treatment practices. They work in a variety of nursing environments such as hospitals, physician offices and outpatient care centers.
Nurse practitioners represent the second fastest growing occupation in the nation, and U.S. News and World Report ranked nurse practitioners as No. 1 in a list of Best Healthcare Careers in 2022.

PTAs typically work in health practitioner offices or in hospitals.
