Strength in Support: The Real Impact of Giving to Herzing
Nov 25, 2025

Life doesn’t pause when students decide to pursue their education, and for many, the path to a degree is paved with unexpected challenges. At Herzing University, we understand that financial instability, sudden emergencies, or personal crises can derail even the most determined students. That’s why the Herzing Crisis Support Grant, the Herzing University Completion Grant and the Jason Morgan Memorial Technology Scholarship exist.
- The Crisis Support grant is an emergency grant for active students experiencing a financial crisis to provide immediate assistance to those facing difficult moments that threaten their academic progress. It is funded through the donations of generous benefactors like alumni, faculty and staff.
- The Completion Grant is available to applicants in any program who demonstrate a financial need and are unable to cover the cost of attendance with alternative resources in their final academic year.
- The Jason Morgan Technology (JMT) Scholarship provides eligible students with a replacement device when they have had a change in circumstance and no longer have adequate access to the technology needed to continue with their education.
From transportation setbacks to unexpected medical hardships, housing struggles, inaccessibility to technology or urgent family needs, our grants ensure students can stay focused on their education and future. The stories below highlight the real, life-changing impact of this support and the strength of the students who keep going, no matter what stands in their way.
Stories of Crisis to Support
Many students describe the Crisis Support Grant as a lifeline during moments when their academic progress felt most at risk. For example, one student shared:
“The Crisis Support Grant helped me get through the financial stress of a car accident and helped me continue to focus on academics. With the money I received, I was able to purchase a new vehicle after my accident. I was still able to get back and forth for my exams on campus. From the bottom of my heart, beyond thankful.” - Lacey A., Bachelor's in Dental Hygiene, Minneapolis
Another student reflected on how the grant sustained her family during an unexpected and deeply personal hardship:
“Shortly after starting my degree, my husband became sick with cancer. We went from a two-income family to one. I was facing the choice of putting my classes on hold again to get a second job because we were behind on rent. The money from the Crisis Support Grant helped me stay in school, and I managed a 4.0 despite all my challenges.” - Dorothy B., Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Madison
Perseverance through Hardship
For many, the grant not only eases financial strain but also offers dignity and stability during overwhelming circumstances. One student explained this impact in her own words:
“Being a single mom with three teenagers is challenging. I work part-time and have medical conditions, so meeting financial obligations and paying for expenses is really hard. The financial assistance I got from the Crisis Fund came at the right time to pay for groceries and clothing for my kids.” - Gihan A., Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Brookfield
Others describe how the grant helped them continue their education when unexpected costs threatened to derail their progress. As one recipient shared:
“The grant helped me with an unforeseen transportation issue. I was able to get my car fixed without delay and continue my program. This has been such a humbling and trying experience, and I am so grateful that someone took the time to care about my well-being. The fact that people make these types of donations goes to show that a little can go a long way and bring light to a dark place. We never know when we may need help, and I am so happy that this grant was there to bring that light into my life in that moment.” - Kelly J., RN, Akron
Make a Real Difference
These powerful testimonials represent just a few of the countless lives transformed through generosity. Each story is a reminder that support, even in small amounts, can change the trajectory of a student’s education and sometimes their entire life.
When donors choose to give, they are not just offering financial assistance; they are providing hope, stability, and the confidence students need to keep moving forward. They are helping parents stay in school, empowering survivors to rebuild their lives, ensuring transportation for essential classes and clinicals, and giving students the chance to achieve the future they’ve worked so hard to create.
Together, we can continue making education accessible, achievable, and life-changing.

BLS pay estimates calculate the median annual wage for various occupations. Per the BLS the median wage for an occupation is: "The wage at which half of the workers in the occupation earned more than that amount, and half earned less. Median wage data are from the BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics survey." Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook 2024. BLS median wage estimates do not represent entry-level wages and/or salaries. Multiple factors, including prior experience, age, geographic market in which you want to work, and degree level and field, will affect career outcomes, including starting salary and earnings as an experienced employee.
