Na’Kaisha Hughes is looking forward to attending Herzing University next fall. In partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Kensoha, Wisconsin, Herzing University awards two full-tuition scholarships to Club members each year. Hughes is one of this year’s deserving recipients.

Hughes, a first-generation college student, plans on earning her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.

“I’d like to be a probation officer and also work with at-risk kids and teens,” she said. “I’m excited to get started!”

Herzing-Madison IT program chair Joseph Cann spoke with middle school and high school students about careers in information technology at the first-ever Spring Break Gaming and Coding Day on March 27, 2018.

Students had the opportunity to learn about computer coding, video gaming and related careers from a variety of exhibitors, including Acme Nerd Games, LLC, Filament Games, Gear Learning and Mad Marker Studios. Madison Mayor Paul Soglin also spoke about the importance of information technology both now and in the future.

Nursing and PTA students at Herzing University - Brookfield recently hosted a donation drive benefiting Hearts in Motion, a non-profit organization serving people in Guatemala.

Organized by nursing instructor Linda Philips, students collected walkers, crutches, wheelchairs, canes and other equipment that will be shipped to medical facilities in the country.

Herzing University today announced the opening of a new practical nursing diploma program at its Kenosha Campus, which will train students to become licensed practical nurses (LPNs), filling a vital workforce need in the region.

The 12-month program includes classroom instruction and hands-on clinical experience to prepare students for the National Council Licensing Examination for Practical Nurses exam (NCLEX-PN). Students may also elect to complete some coursework online.

Herzing University Kenosha Campus President Jeff Hill received the prestigious Patriot Award from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) on Feb. 28. The ESGR honor recognizes employers for their superior support of Guard and Reserve members.

Hill was nominated by Beth Gilbertson, an Army reservist who also serves as academic dean at Herzing’s Kenosha campus. Gilbertson, whose tour ended Feb. 12, wanted to show her thanks to Hill and to Herzing for being supportive of her service.

Herzing University Director of Online Nursing Dr. Terri Kaul participated in a panel discussion on nursing careers at the Wisconsin Student Nurses Association’s (WSNA) annual conference on February 10, 2018.

Dr. Kaul educated attendees on various nursing career pathways and the advantages of pursuing a nursing degree at Herzing University. She also spoke about current issues facing the healthcare workforce, including the growing shortage of nurses and nurse leaders.

Herzing University-Brookfield and the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce recently announced a new scholarship for LGBT individuals working in the healthcare industry.

Herzing University-Birmingham was recently named one of the best registered nursing (RN) programs in Alabama by registerednursing.org, an online resource for current and future nurses. Alabama nursing schools were ranked based on current and historical NCLEX-RN pass rates for all RN programs, including Associate in Nursing (ASN), Bachelor in Nursing (BSN) and direct-entry MSN programs.
