Herzing’s New Orleans campus hosted a food and clothing drive from February 13-22 to benefit victims of the recent tornadoes that tore through southern Louisiana. The weeklong event culminated with two community cookouts on February 21 and 22, where students and community members gathered to make their final donations and enjoy free hamburgers and hotdogs. Affected Herzing students were invited to collect items from the donation box and all remaining items were sent to Second Harvest Food Bank. Way to go, Herzing!

Herzing Minneapolis nursing students raised $550 through a campus-wide bake sale in January to benefit Resource Inc., a non-profit organization that provides more than 18,000 Minnesota residents with employment services, career education and mental health services through its Northwest Community Support Program. The check was awarded to Tom Schreiner, RN at Resource Inc., who has been an invaluable resource for Herzing nursing students and has generously given his time to introduce them to his work in the community. Herzing is thankful for its continued partnership with Resource Inc.

Our RN-BSN program has experiential learning courses, as required by our accrediting body, CCNE. These experiential learning courses are specially designed for experienced nurses and do not include hands-on patient care, but rather problem solving in the field. For example, in the Community Health course, students identify a program in the community and work with a community liaison to develop a solution.
