Kenosha Offers Nursing Clinical Partnerships in IL

Herzing-Kenosha is making it easier for nursing students from northern Illinois to participate in clinicals in their home state. Herzing Kenosha Campus President Jeff Hill announced this week that the school has secured one clinical agreement with a healthcare provider in Illinois, with plans to add at least 10 additional sites by the end of the year.

Herzing Graduates Go the Distance

On Friday, May 19, Herzing graduate Kim Jones, along with her husband and six young children, drove 14 hours from their hometown of Abilene, TX to attend Herzing-Birmingham’s commencement ceremony. Jones is a graduate of Herzing’s MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner program, and chose to attend Herzing University because her preceptor, a Herzing alumni, highly recommended the university’s FNP program. Another Herzing-Birmingham FNP graduate drove from southern Illinois to attend the ceremony. Congrats, graduates!

Toledo Campus Hosts American Red Cross Blood Drive

On June 7, Herzing-Toledo conducted a campus blood drive to benefit the American Red Cross, which is the largest single supplier of blood and blood products in the United States, distributing to 2,600 hospitals and transfusion centers nationwide. Herzing staff, faculty and students participated in the drive, collecting more than 2 gallons of blood. Donors also enjoyed snacks, refreshments and a gift card raffle.

Herzing Board Member Honored as Woman Executive of the Year

Wendy Baumann, President/CVO at The Wisconsin Women's Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC) and Herzing University board member since 2015, was recently named Woman Executive of the Year by BizTimes Media. The award was presented at the BizExpo during a Women in Business panel discussion on May 24, 2017, and recognizes Wendy’s dedication to furthering entrepreneurship and business opportunities for women and minorities in Wisconsin.

Orlando Nursing Students Lead Self-Care Health Fair

Students from Herzing-Orlando’s community nursing class led a "Self-Care Health Fair" for the residents of the Legacy Academy at the Florida United Methodist Children's Home (FUMCH) in Deltona, Fla., on May 3, 2017. FUMCH provides residential, therapeutic group, foster and emergency shelter care for orphans and other children who have nowhere else to live.

Madison Campus Announces New Faculty Assembly Chair

Herzing University-Madison is pleased to announce Dr. Jenny Curro, D.C. as the new Campus Faculty Assembly Chair. In addition to her teaching duties, Dr. Curro will serve as the campus representative for all Madison faculty as well as play an important role in curriculum implementation and decision-making. Dr. Curro will also lead semi-annual faculty meetings and facilitate discussions about the direction of academics at the Madison campus.

Herzing-Orlando Unveils Belgrade Reader Sculpture

On Saturday, April 15, Herzing-Orlando joined members of the Serbian community and students from South Seminole Middle School for the official unveiling of the Belgrade Reader sculpture, donated by Serbian artist and former Herzing exchange student Milos Saric. The Belgrade Reader project, initiated in Serbia, strives to promote cultural exchange, readership and creativity among children of all ages. In October of last year, Herzing University sponsored Saric’s visit to Orlando. His work is the latest addition to the Lake Concord Sculpture Garden.

Nursing Department Chair Michelle Metzger Honored By American Nurses Foundation

Michelle Metzger, nursing department chair at Herzing University’s Kenosha campus, was recently recognized for her extraordinary contributions to healthcare through the Honor A Nurse Program. Sponsored by the American Nurses Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the American Nurses Association (ANA), Honor A Nurse encourages community members to make a donation in tribute to a nurse who has positively impacted the lives of patients and students. All donations are used to support nursing research, scholarships and programs.
