The VA pays the school in lump sums. It can take up to 14 business days for our Student Accounts department to review and allocate appropriate funds to each student’s account. You can monitor your student account within your student portal at https://login.herzing.edu

The Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) provides money to cover service members' housing and related costs for those whose quarters are not provided by the government. BAH rate is based on paygrade, dependency status and the location of duty station. Rates change each year and can be viewed at https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/resources/benefits_resources/rate_tables.asp. For chapter benefits that come to the school, the VA will pay 7-10 days after tuition and fees is reported to the VA. Housing allowance is sent to eligible students at the beginning of every month for the prior months enrollment.

For chapter benefits that go to the student directly, the VA pays benefits at the beginning of every month for the prior month's enrollment.

For Federal Tuition Assistance that comes to the school, the individual branch of service will pay tuition and fees after Herzing invoices, which is after the start of each term.

The VA reexamines school status every 8 weeks of a semester, and they consider 5 or more credits within an 8-week period to be full-time. Dependent on class schedule, a student may be considered full-time for part of a semester and less than full-time for the other if credits vary in each half of a semester.

If you are a new Student, your benefits will be certified once you are fully enrolled - this will happen no sooner than Week 2 of classes.

If you are an existing student, we will work to certify benefits leading up to the start of classes, but may sometimes take a little longer.

The VA requires schools collect transcripts from all previous institutions and military training. Herzing will make every effort to obtain transcripts to comply with the requirement to evaluate and grant credit where appropriate.

If the DD-214 is requested, we require the Member 4 or Service-2 showing character of service upon discharge.

You must apply for a COE (on www.va.gov)—the VA will mail it to you. Veterans may be able to access a summary of their Post 9/11 benefits online at the E-benefits website here https://www.ebenefits.va.gov/ebenefits/homepage
