I chose to earn a degree in social work because I enjoy helping people and making a positive difference in their lives. Herzing’s flexible schedule and online courses helped me balance school with work and family responsibilities.
One major setback I experienced was that my original practicum violated a lot of rules, like HIPPA. I reported it to Ms. Nicki, who very quickly helped me find a new site, and by the grace of God, I was able to complete my degree without interruption to my progress! My clinical and practicum experiences ended up being the most valuable because they allowed me to apply what I learned in real-life situations.
I was surprised by how much I grew personally and professionally throughout the program. I don’t have any job opportunities at the moment, but I plan to just take a mental break, relax and go see family.
My advice for students is to stay focused, ask for help when you need it, and don’t give up. The hard work is worth it!
