Herzing University

A couple of years ago, I was honestly at a low point in my life and knew that I wanted more for myself. I had spent a few years being a stay-at-home mom and when I returned to the workforce, I found myself working jobs that were low-paying and didn't really feel like they were leading anywhere. At the time, I still wasn't completely sure what I wanted my long-term career to look like, but I knew I wanted to go back to school and create better opportunities for myself and family.

I decided to go to school for Applied Behavioral Analysis because I had to live it every day. I have 2 kids that are autistic; my daughter is level 3 and nonverbal. I had to attend parent training for her. My experiences with my own 2 children made me realize what I wanted to do. I want to help other families as well.

I remember searching online for good online programs that offered the degree I was interested in, and Herzing University came up. What started as a simple Google search ended up becoming the most important decision I've made for myself.

Honestly, the person who helped me the most throughout my time at Herzing was myself. I had people in my life who were used to seeing me start school and not finish, and I knew this time had to be different. I stopped looking for motivation from other people and started doing this for me.

There were times when I was tired, overwhelmed, or wanted to give up, but I kept reminding myself why I started. I had to organize my time very carefully. I have a very strict routine for myself. I work during the day, pick up my kids, cook dinner and head up to the office to do homework. Now Mondays, I usually give myself a day before I jump into homework.

I had something to prove to others, but more than anything, I had something to prove to myself. Herzing gave me the opportunity to earn my degree, but I had to make the decision every day to keep going. Now that I am about to graduate, I think that is one of the things I am most proud of.

Being able to stick to a routine as always been hard for me. I was very surprised in myself more than anything. I've attended other online programs and honestly my motivation is what got me through it.

Do not give up! It is worth it!
