I learned about the surgical technology cohort through my employer.  I love to be hands-on and have an active role in the surgery process. I've been a surgery scheduler for many years, and I've longed to pursue a career in surgical technology. When I learned of this cohort through the workforce development team, I did not hesitate to apply!

Herzing allowed me the opportunity to do most of the coursework outside of a classroom. That meant I could do my work at home, on breaks while at work, and even when on vacation. The financial aspect was a huge benefit as well as the process was very easy to navigate as I was provided with all the assistance needed. Everyone has been extremely helpful since day one. From the very beginning in admissions to my instructors, my experience has been incredible. I have always felt supported.

Balancing work/life/school, even with most of my courses being online. Adjusting to returning to school as an older adult, working full-time and having a part-time job as well, proved to be very challenging. I was able to adjust my time even when it meant missing time with family and friends occasionally, it was a small price to pay for the end result. I'm happy to have had the opportunity to pursue a long-time dream of mine to become a surgical tech.

Hands down, the skills lab was the most helpful experience! For me, this was a turning point. I'd struggled with a course right before Skills Lab and almost didn't make it there. Once that started and I met my classmates and Instructor, Alesha Hernandez, everything shifted. I felt completely supported, encouraged and renewed in spirit to continue. This was the first hands-on experience in the OR setting, and I was reassured that I am made for this.

I highly recommend Herzing University to anyone looking for a quality education with flexibility and strong support from faculty. I received an excellent education here, and being able to complete much of my coursework online gave me the flexibility to balance my education with my other responsibilities. My instructors were superb—knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely invested in my success. Most importantly, my clinical experience was outstanding and gave me valuable hands-on experience that helped prepare me for my career. Overall, my experience at Herzing University was extremely positive, and I am grateful for the education and preparation I received.

I have job secured as a Surgical Technologist at a local hospital. After orientation and working for a few months, I will decide if I wish to pursue continued education in a Surgical First Assist program.

No matter where you are in life or what you're doing, if you wish to pursue this degree, you won't be disappointed. I've already learned so much and look forward to having an essential role in the operating room that can directly contribute to saving lives and improving patient health.
