Their journeys to careers in healthcare and nursing are filled with moments of doubt and triumph — just like the stories of the great pioneers who have helped shape our profession. These graduate stories celebrate their success and inspire others to make their own dreams a reality.
Here are some of the many heartwarming stories made possible by an education from Herzing University:
Holly Bell turned her lifelong dream of nursing into a fulfilling career in hospice care. Holly pursued her Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree at Herzing, where her clinical experience solidified her calling. As a Case Manager, Holly provides care to patients at the end of their lives, embodying the innovative spirit of nursing.
“When I go back to school, I’ll choose Herzing. When I got here, it was like having a real-life family. The Director of Nursing Programs at my campus personally called to check on me the morning of my boards. They truly care about their students.”
Asi Ituen, a third-generation nurse, carries on his family's inspiring legacy with his Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Asi tackled Herzing University’s rigorous program while working full-time as a CNA. Now a registered nurse in Atlanta, Asi is passionate about diversifying the nursing workforce and providing empathetic, culturally competent care to his patients.
“Herzing isn’t a traditional college, and I’m grateful for that. Being with a group of focused, dedicated adults in my cohort pushed me and helped me grow.”
Corey Smith and Corneisha Dixon overcame numerous challenges to achieve their educational dreams together while balancing full-time work and family life. Their dedication and drive culminated in a dual-graduation ceremony in Milwaukee. Corey and Corneisha exemplify the power of determination and the value of education in opening new doors for their future.

Luke Gaskins turned an early fascination with science into a successful career focused on improving healthcare. Luke’s influential time shadowing nurses shifted his focus from chemistry to nursing. As the founder of Proxy Healthcare, he addresses staffing challenges and helps impact patient care, demonstrating the leadership and proactive mindset instilled in him at Herzing.
“Herzing taught me that there's no room for hesitation when it comes to implementation. You have to step out of your comfort zone, roll up your sleeves, and get the job done. It was a pivotal lesson in leadership, reminding me that the idea of failure is just an opportunity to learn and grow.”
Jami Van Brocklin exemplifies compassionate mental health care as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She focuses on integrative health, offering psychiatric evaluations, detox programs, and personalized treatments. Inspired by her commitment to lifelong learning, Jami champions holistic, trauma-informed care and advocates for alternatives to medication dependency to empower patients on their recovery journey.
“My time at Herzing University and the two decades I’ve spent as a nurse helped lay the foundation for everything I am doing today. I view every patient as unique, and I believe in providing tailored care. True healing begins with understanding the root cause of a patient's condition, not simply glancing at the surface symptoms.”
Jamice Glass has come full circle from student to nurse educator at Herzing-Kenosha. After transferring to Herzing, Jamice was inspired to pursue a teaching role. Jamice mentors the next generation of healthcare professionals, leveraging her intensive care experience and the critical thinking skills honed at Herzing to prepare students to offer innovative healthcare solutions.

The available resources were comprehensive, and my mentors genuinely cared about preparing students for their future endeavors, closely followed their accomplishments and supported their growth.”
Alejandro Roldan is transforming healthcare through education and advocacy. From BSN studies to becoming a registered nurse and educator, Alejandro is committed to holistic patient care and diversity. Actively involved with the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, he promotes neurodiversity and, as an academic liaison, mentors’ future healthcare professionals in his community.
“My journey at Herzing played a pivotal role in molding my nursing foundation.
