The Florida Health Information Management Association has presented author, educator and healthcare professional Dr. Shelley Safian its 2016 Distinguished Service Award.

The association award, which recognizes members and non-members who have spearheaded and completed outstanding service projects through the association, was presented at its annual conference last month.

The American Medical Technologists presented longtime member, educator and State of Missouri AMT President Alberta Smith its 2016 national award for Exceptional Merit in the allied health profession.

The award, which is only given to members who have served the AMT for at least seven years and made significant contributions to the organization, was presented at an AMT conference last month.

Congratulations to Keetra Burnette, who was featured in July 2016's issue of UMOJA Magazine. Burnette graduated with an MBA from Herzing University-Madison, with a concentration in project management. She was the recipient of a scholarship from Herzing University's partnership with the Urban League of Greater Madison. As the Senior Director of Community Impact with the United Way in Dana County, Burnette is already using her degree to build strategic partnerships and benefit the community.

Dr. Blake Faulkner, Provost of Herzing University, has retired. Dr. Faulkner joined Herzing University in 2012 as Vice President of Strategic Advancement. In his success, Dr. Faulkner quickly became Provost of Herzing University, a role he filled for more than three years. His dedication to the university was celebrated at Herzing's headquarters in Menomonee Falls, WI. He will be succeeded by former Vice Provost Kitty Kautzer.

As a part of Herzing University’s DEGREE UP initiative, Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GPTC) students who earn an associate degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or greater are eligible for admission to Herzing University to pursue a four-year degree. The purpose of this agreement is to provide GPTC graduates with the opportunity to maximize the amount of transfer of credits received at GPTC.

June 2016: Herzing University – Kenosha Campus Phi Beta Lambda (FIBL - PBL) chapter sent three students – Stephanie Dillon, Jeannie Chapa and Ben Sauceda – to Atlanta, Georgia for the 2016 PBL National Leadership Conference.

The Conference brings together future business leaders from across the country for a series of workshops, networking and two-days of competition.

•Sauceda took 7th place in the nation for “Impromptu Speaking.”

Members of the Brookfield President’s Council and staff took their Saturday mornings to help out with the Challenger Little League in Franklin. Volunteers worked with special needs players to stay engaged with the games as their families were able to sit back and enjoy watching their children play baseball.

Herzing University Atlanta recently partnered with Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) to provide tutoring and to mentor students. In addition to offering these resources, Herzing Atlanta offered scholarships to six deserving senior members.  Thursday, May 19th at the annual Senior Awards Ceremony, Amber Murphy Raines, Director of Community Partnerships, along with Brandon Glasco, Admissions Advisor, and Tiara Hector, Sr. Career Development Specialist at Herzing Atlanta, announced the scholarship recipients.

We would like to congratulate Herzing alumnus Mike Tusken on officially being appointed as the Police Chief of Duluth, Minnesota.

“We have found a real champion in Mike Tusken,” Duluth Mayor Emily Larson said during a news conference at the Public Safety Building. “I’m so proud and pleased that we present him today as our next police chief, and I know that in the coming months the police staff here and the city will really see the deep, wonderful vision that Mike has for this work.”

ORLANDO (May 2, 2016) – Herzing University and the African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida today announced a partnership to provide 20 full-tuition scholarships for business professionals to pursue an MBA degree on Herzing University’s Orlando campus.

The scholarships will be awarded to selected applicants by the African American Chamber of Commerce in alignment with the next two consecutive terms of Herzing University’s 2016 academic calendar, with 10 scholarships granted in May and 10 scholarships granted in July.
