Letter to Future Graduates

Dear Future Graduate,

We understand. Navigating the transition from student to graduate to a working professional can feel intimidating. Breathe! You’re doing so much of the hard work now and eventually, you’ll look back at these days and smile at how far you’ve come. As you prepare for your graduation day, we wanted to share some valuable advice for making the transition from Herzing student to Herzing graduate as smooth as possible.

Focus on the Present

You are more than just a ‘future’ anything. You are the current face of your degree program, whether that is nursing, healthcare, technology, business, public safety, legal studies or behavioral health. Focus on fulfilling your purpose of serving those in front of you right now, wherever you are.

As you have learned, time management is a tried-and-true skill that will serve you well in every aspect of your life. You can’t control the future and you can’t alter the past; you only have control of the present, so make the most of where you are now. Focus on doing your best in the present moment.

Never Stop Learning

Learning does not mean simply returning to school to earn another degree. We have the opportunity to learn from every experience, whether it’s inside a classroom or not. Just because you’re no longer assigned homework doesn’t mean your time learning has come to a close. You should always strive to learn more no matter what your profession. There are always advancements, regardless of what field you work in.

You can learn by taking a class, earning continuing education credits, or simply connecting with other professionals in your field. You should never feel like you are too old to learn something new. Learning is not reserved just for a classroom, although a classroom could be the springboard to a lifetime of learning.

Only you know what the future will hold. Perhaps you’ll be back to continue your education or maybe this will be the final step before you begin a long and rewarding career. However, if you do decide to return to Herzing University (and our doors are always open to you), we offer a Lifelong Learning Alumni Scholarship for returning students to help finance their education.

Don’t Forget Your Roots

When you leave Herzing University, you are entering a whole new world of opportunities, but graduating does not mean you are no longer a part of the Herzing family. You are starting a new chapter as a Herzing alumnus, where you will continue to be supported and encouraged by our team.

Not only do you have unlimited access to the Herzing University Career Center, but you can receive ongoing career coaching from the Career Development Team.

And, if you want to do your own thing now, you can still use our resources to connect with peers or meet other valuable contacts by joining the LinkedIn Alumni Group and checking out the Alumni Center.

Embrace Your New Role!

Graduating doesn’t make you a new person, but it does give you a new identity. You may be starting a new role or continuing in an old one, but you have renewed credibility and a degree to back up your experience and talents.

You have come a long way. When you are handed your diploma, it represents all the struggles, achievements, smiles, tears, and hard work that you put into your education. When you walk across the stage you are taking a huge step toward your personal achievements. Although you share your graduation with your peers, your graduation day is a unique celebration for you!

All we can say is congratulations! As a future Herzing University graduate, we are so incredibly proud of you and can’t wait to see what amazing things you will accomplish!

Best wishes,

Your continuing supporters—and those who have been where you are—at Herzing University.
