Students and staff at Herzing University-Minneapolis recently participated in the eighth annual Oral Cancer Walk organized by the Minnesota Dental Hygiene Association. The event is part of a national movement for oral cancer awareness led by the Oral Cancer Foundation.
Herzing dental hygiene students created informational posters for the event and also led trivia games at the Herzing booth after the walk. Oral hygiene care bags (with a toothbrush, floss and toothpaste) were given out as prizes and Herzing also hosted two free raffles for the chance to win an Oral-B Braun electric toothbrush and a Target gift card.
“As a result of their participation and preparation for this event, students now understand the importance of early detection and why they perform oral cancer (head/neck) screenings in clinic,” said Herzing dental hygiene professor Linda Koch.
Students will also present their posters on campus for National Dental Hygiene Month in October.
Way to go, students!
