Herzing University celebrated GivingTuesday 2021 by selecting Maygan Heffron as the winner of its annual $5,000 scholarship contest. Heffron was picked as part of a random drawing of more than 1,300 entries just before the Nov. 30 international day of giving.
Heffron’s GivingTuesday entry mentioned that she helps animals by volunteering at an animal refuge. She discovered the Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge in Dallas, PA when her family was looking for a special four-legged friend to add to their family. Thankful for what Blue Chip gave to them, Heffron and her teenage son give back by volunteering at the shelter five days a week.
“Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge has a special place in my heart, as it’s where we rescued our dog Buddy from six years ago,” said Heffron, a student from Herzing’s online division. “We help clean the pens, provide walks, bathe animals and share our story with others in hopes of helping more animals find their fur-ever homes!”
