A career in nursing comes with numerous benefits – a positive job outlook, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), projecting 12% growth from 2018 to 2028, as well as the ability to make a positive difference in people’s lives. But nursing school certainly doesn’t come without its challenges, especially for students who continue to work full-time and/or raise a family.
Nobody quite knows what you’re going through like students who have already experienced it themselves. Here are six inspiring quotes from Herzing nursing alums to help you complete nursing school and achieve your dreams:
“My final clinical rotation at an intensive treatment program for autistic and intellectually disabled patients had the greatest impact on me. I didn’t know I would fall in love with that community. Now I feel even more passionate about pursuing a career in nursing! My advice for other students is to keep going, no matter what obstacles present themselves along the way. It doesn’t matter if it takes 2 or 20 years – follow your dreams.” – Brandon Charles Shaver, BSN, Kenosha Campus
“I love being able to care for patients and families during the most vulnerable and scary times in their lives. It's a challenging career, but so very rewarding.” – Lindsey Van Galder, RN to BSN, Online Campus
“Be dedicated and determined regardless of what challenges come your way. Don’t give up, even when you feel overwhelmed. The reward, in the end, is amazing.” – Donnalee Fulton, Associate in Nursing, Birmingham Campus
“Everybody can find a way to make it fit because Herzing offers morning and evening course options. I chose to take evening classes, which helped me find a balance between work, school and raising my family. My advice for others is to just stay focused and be positive. Always do your work on time and study hard. More importantly, learn to prioritize your time.” –Aminata Kuyateh, BSN, Atlanta Campus
"Embrace what you love and know that a nursing program should never be designed to be easy, especially since we have people’s lives in our hands. If nursing is something you want to do, then you must give it your all! My awesome support system at home helped me be successful. My family and I were determined I was going to make it through this program and they did all they could to help me see it through to the end.” – LaTasha Carr, LPN, Birmingham Campus
“My advice for others is to put yourself first. You will know who is supporting you when you haven't seen your friends or family in two weeks because the only extra time you have is spent studying, sleeping or working. Get a calendar, write everything down and take it one day at a time. Relax and know you WILL get through this!” – Regina Schultz, Associate in Nursing, Akron Campus
