The Associate of Science in Nursing, offer through Herzing University's Madison and Orlando campuses and Associate of Applied Science in Nursing offered through the Akron campus prepare students to take the National Council Licensing Examination for registered nurses exam (NCLEX-RN) and become a licensed registered nurse (RN).

How long will the program take?

Earning either of the nursing associate degrees requires about 74 credits, based on the location. It typically takes about 20 months to finish the program.

What will I learn?

The RN prep associate degree coursework includes a significant amount of clinical training and courses cover topics like management and pharmacology. For specific classes, download a course sheet: for the Associate of Science in Nursing or for the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing.

What can I do as an RN?

An RN can perform diagnostic tests, operate certain medical equipment, consult with a physician on a course of treatment and administer medication. In addition to working in general healthcare practice, RNs also can specialize in areas such as pre-operative care, diabetes management, pediatric oncology, geriatric care, ambulatory care and dermatology.

What are the Admissions Requirements?

Admission can vary by campus, but typical standards include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
  • Earning the minimum score on the TEAS exam.
