Begin your journey toward a nursing career
Develop the skills and confidence to begin your nursing career in the Herzing University Practical Nursing program. Through classroom instruction and hands-on clinical experience, you'll emerge fully prepared take the National Council Licensing Examination for Practical Nurses exam (NCLEX-PN) and become a licensed practical nurse (LPN).
How long will the program take?
Students must complete 1350 clock hours to complete the PN program and earn the Diploma in Practical Nursing. This program typically takes 12 months to complete.
What will I learn?
Topics in the PN program include Nursing, Body and Structure Function, and Medical Terminology. You'll develop a foundation of nursing skills, an understanding of ethical and legal issues, and communication in a professional healthcare setting. What can I do as an PN?
You will be able to work in a wide variety of healthcare settings including hospitals, doctors' offices, and nursing homes. PNs often work closely with patients, observing their condition and reporting those observations to a doctor or RN. Completing the PN program also prepares you to move into the Herzing associate or bachelor's degree nursing programs.
What are the Admissions Requirements?
Admission decisions vary by campus and program, but here are some of the firm requirements:
- Completion of high school or equivalency (Diploma, HSED or GED)
- Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher (students with 12 or more transferable collegiate credits will be assessed on their collegiate cumulative GPA; candidates with a GED or HSED will be assessed a 2.5 cumulative GPA)
- Take the nursing entrance examination and meet the minimum requirements
